Fun Amex Issue

Hello everyone. I have an interesting American Express issue. I had the account for 4 years and was my first ard upon turning 18. I had 2 surgeries and was out of both school and work and thus unable to make payments. I ended up making my payments and paying the account in full without it ever being closed. As soon as I made my last payment and had a zero balance, my account was closed "due to inactivity".

Now on my credit report for equifax, it says that this account "type" is listed as a Collections account instead of "credit card". Transunion and experian say that it was a collection\chargeoff. The thing I can understand is that this never went to collections- the account was paid off in full (every payment directly through their website) and never met a collections agency.

I called for a goodwill adjustment to have this removed and they said that they cant do that unless there is wrong information. When I protest that this info is wrong, I just start to get the runaround.

Would this be a straight forward case for a nutcase letter? I am seeing information that is clearly wrong under the Amex portion of my credit report and there are no other cases for this debt on my report for any collection agencies...

Thanks for any and all assistance.

First dispute it with the credit bureaus as being false information. Explain what the truth of the matter is and then wait for them to verify it. Then sue Amex in federal court for providing false information to a credit bureau. I'm no credit repair expert but that's the way I'd do it.

What do you mean by with no luck? You mean that they actually validated the debt? Actually sent you a goodly number of statements from the original creditor? That does happen from time to time.

Sorry for the short answer- I posted from my iphone as I just woke up :D Anyways, they said the information was updated on my report and I see the dates change as well. But the same information remains- different info on all 3 reports.

But on another note I did try calling the "backdoor" number for Chase regarding my Disney Rewards card I applied for yesterday. After explaining all of this mess to the credit agent, he agreed with the points I was making and extended me a new line of credit with them :) Thank you to this board for everything I've read to repair my credit so far.
