Fun w/Citibank..where's my payment?

Just got off the phone with both my bank and Citibank and it apparently seems that my last payment (which was sent electronically on the 5th from my bank) is nowhere to be found at Citibank. I had to get my bank to fax investigations a copy that stated that payment was indeed made on that date, blah blah.

Now my question, since the payment due date is the 17th (Monday), should I just leave things as is and see what happens (risking a late fee and a jacked up interest rate if they just ignore the information), or should I bite the bullet and pay the $15 sucker charge to pay them by another payment by phone Friday (can't pay by the website as there's a 6 day hold) to make sure they get something in time?

I figure somebody's had this problem before...your advice?

Only make a second payment on the phone if they DON'T CHARGE THE $15.00 SUCKER FEE.

They know you tried to pay...IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT!!!

I would make the telephone payment to make sure MY behind was covered, and then request that they credit it to me afterwards. Why take the chance? I have done enough business with Citi that I believe, if you have a good record with them so far (sounds like your account is fairly new), they would refund the $15.00.

I've only had the account since December, so I definitely don't want to screw things up. Last month's payment (same method) got there in 3 days so somebody dropped the ball this time around. Both your and George's suggestion was what crossed my mind to ask them...pay the sucker fee but insist that they refund when they find that it wasn't an error on my part.

I'm right with Breeze on this one.

Although Citi had damn well better not ignore the bank, it may take some time to straighten it all out.

Since you're only talking a lousy 15 bux why not just "cover your bases".?.?

Once it is fixed make them credit your account, especialy for the $15 if charged.

    :)

It won't hurt to ask for the fee be dropped IMMEDIATELY with the phone call and just pay a second payment...IT IS A CITIBANK PROBLEM...NOT YOURS...NOT YOUR BANKS!!!

Why should you have to "BAIL OUT" CITIBANK???

It would probably be weeks before they credit the $15.00, AND PROBABLY WITH-OUT ANY INTEREST CREDIT!!!

I agree with the others, I wouldn't risk it, they will get it worked out, but maybe not within your due date.

Sorry george, but I wouldn't insist on them waving the fee, sometimes sweetness is a much better route, then being demanding, kill them with kindness:)

They will remove the fee after they sort it out.

    AMAZING!

I just called them...all I had to do is explain the story and if the sucker fee (no I didn't say that) would be waived if it was their fault. I barely got finished when she said "Sure, no problem...in fact, I'll just waive the fee right now". No hassles, no arguments!

That's what I thought! It's worth the effort - you don't want to lose that, believe me. After you have had your card for a while, it won't take 6 days for them to apply the online payment to your account. You have to establish a good track record, then they apply it the next day.

Call Citibank customer service and ask them to do a "late fee suppression." Most accounts qualify for this a couple of times per year as long as your credit is good with them. If you tell them about the payment problem, they should be able to waive the $14.95 speedpay fee for a check by phone.

No one should have to pay what they don't owe just to keep them from screwing up your credit report.
This is nothing short of extortion!

You mentioned that there's a 6 day hold for an online payment. I pay them online and it clears overnight. Why are they making you wait 6 days?

Bank account doesn't verify instantly...six day waiting period to register.

And I still wonder if they'll ever find that other payment.

The first 2 or 3 months, Citi won't credit you instantly if your bank doesn't verify instantly. Once you have had your account with Citi for a while, and your online payments are always good, they will credit your account the next day instead of the 6 days wait. I think I said this, but maybe it wasn't clear what I was saying.

pay twice a month :) Never fails.

I've never had a problem with citi losing a payment though. I guess it could happen but my good habit of paying twice a months, on payday, always ensures silly trouble like this doesn't occurr.
