I just used PF to write to them. I applied for a card in October and was denied. The reason was: Collection. I had no such collection-- at least I didn't think so. I got my TU report and there it was, an error. I wrote to TU, they removed the error. I called Discover and the rep said that 30 days will have passed before TU had a chance to mail them an updated report so I'd have to reapply. I asked if the Collection error being fixed would mean I'd get a card adn she said if that's the only reason on the letter, then I don't see why not. Well, I reapplied and today I get a denial letter with a litany of reasons: Too many cards wtih balances Age of accounts Excessive number of CREDIT BUREAU inquiries (WTF is that?) Now I have 2 Discovery burns on my report and no card. Yeah, I know some of you think the card blows but still, this really pisses me off.
That was a real scummy tactic on Discover's part. Unfortunately, Discover does not reply via planetfeedback (believe me, I've tried). The best way to contact them is through Mr. Brice Brown, Executive Inquiry Speicalist. If you do a search on this board you should find his address. I don't how much he will help, but you will get a response. Good luck. Dani
I had the exact same thing happen with Juniper.I e-mailed them and they e-mailed back and basically told me tough! I think it was very scummy and I wouldnt take their card even if they had given me one!
Forget Discover. They want prime prime people and then they treat them like dirt. You transfer a big balance to them and they'll jack your rate up. And God help you if you ever get in trouble. They are like big mean bulldogs.
That's funny -- Discover was the absolute best creditor to deal with when I was having my problems before I finally just filed Chapter 7. Always professional, never a threat. For years, Discover let me pay on my card without any interest charges. I was down to just under $400 when I finally filed BK, and if I could have, I would have repaid that. Amex, on the other hand ... well let's just say I wish I had known more about the FCRA and other federal laws at the time. Guess that shows that everyone has different experiences and that every creditor is probably the world's biggest jerk to at least someone.
It's always good to hear a story like yours. I have heard more horror stories than good ones re Discover lately though. They used to be nicer than they are now.
