Ok- need help with a game plan After pulling my reports and organizing everything, I find myself in a heap of a mess. I was laid off from my job in NYC back in 2009 and had to move home. I let things go. Waiting to fall off isnâ??t really an option as most wonâ??t fall off my report until 2015/2016. Iâ??ve been doing some reading and have some confusion regarding to verify with CRAs and Validate with CAâ??s. Do I do this at the same time or one before the other? If they come back verified then work towards a settlement with PFD or NDA. Obviously all communication will be done CRRR. Based on peopleâ??s experience what kind of plan can you suggest on how to remove the items below? I had a bad history of keeping good records- so any evidence I need to provide will be limited. I appreciate the help. What CAs or OCs have been corresponding with you and what communication have you had thus far? If you find anything on your credit reports that's inaccurate as you review them, it can't hurt to begin by disputing those accounts through the CRAs. You never "validate" anything through the CRAs. You're simply requesting an investigation. Debt Validation is what you request of the CAs. You want to make sure you protect your rights under the FDCPA, and you also want to make sure you're paying the party that actually has the right to collect your debt.
I haven't had any communication with any CA's or OC's. One of my greatest strengths/ weaknesses is that I never answer my phone. Great with creditors, not so good with Family/ Friends. When disputing inaccurate information with the CRA, for example lets say the account number is inaccurate, does the CRA typically look to the creditor to update the information to the correct account or delete it in its entirety? In comparing credit reports I have found some inconsistances with the way a certain account is reported (the account number being one of them). Regarding the OC's- what's my best course of action? Obviously its difficult to have Charge off's with the OC's removed as I've been reading. Is the best course of action to dispute "not mine" with the CRA's then cross my fingers? Then go to them to see if they would take a PFD if I paid the balance in full? Based on the OC's listed above, does anyone have any success stories or tips they can give me?
Yes, the CRA will communicate with the information furnisher (OC/CA) to verify the data that's being disputed. If they don't receive a response or simply can't verify the information, then the CRA will delete the disputed information from your credit reports. Also, you are right- getting charge offs removed by the OC can be quite difficult. Disputing inaccurate information through the CRAs first is always worth a try.
