I just found out that I had a garnishment filed against me. How could this be I asked I thought I had taken care of everything? Nope, this judgment is stealth itâ??s been under the radar since 1997. The debt is still listed and has the last activity listed as "November 1995" and no other reference no judgment listed ever on any credit report. However today when I found out about the garnishment, and I thought no way this thing is SOL â??Iâ??ve got them bastardsâ? . So I called the court house and they flipped through the records, this garnishment is based on a judgment filed in the state of Massachusetts. I have never lived or done business in Massachusetts how could they file a judgment against me there? I live and work in Washington state so is the judgement valid in Washington also? The attorney filed an additional judgement in 2001 in the state of Washington for his costs only and he has obtained a writ of garnishment from the state of Washington based on both judgements. I donâ??t recall ever being served. The debt was in the state of Washington only, so what gives here? Can I sue these guys? Or am I screwed?
