I'm going to try and build some credit..and I was wondering what the best Gas Card is to get? Can I apply online? I also was wondering...if I get a credit card, gas card, and store card, and don't actually use them...will that still raise my credit score? Thanks for any and all replies it's greatly appreciated.
Gas cards are a good start to building credit. But someone here mentioned in an earlier post, that they can have a detrimental effect on your auto insurance rates. BTW, a person with low credit is score is going to pay between 25-35% more on auto insurance than a person with good credit.
yea..the insurance rate thing is rediculous...but it won't matter I won't be driving for a good 2 or 3 years..maybe even 4. I just want them to build credit. I probably won't even use them..if I don't have to to build credit. If I can just get them and let them sit there I will. Any suggestions on that? Thanks again for any replies.
Re: Re: Gas card... If you do get a gas card, even if you don't drive, you can use them to buy stuff like lunch, soda, chips etc. from a nearby gas-station. If you want to do that, get a gas card that's near you work or home that you can walk there. Some gas-cards, after 2 years or so of good payment history, may be upgraded to Visa or Mastercard. At least, that used to be the case, don't know how it is now. I had a shell master card (then Chemical Bank) that was originally a gas card. Closed it later (1997 or so ....) Best of luck.
Re: Re: Gas card... There are NOT many to choose from... Just pick one or two near you that you will use... USE THEM NO LESS THAN 2 TIMES PER YEAR...(they will close your account if your don't ever use it)...VISA/MC don't usually close accounts...(unless it is a "REAL LONG TIME" like 2-3 years) You do not have to spend like $500+ either...
Re: Re: Gas card... Has anyone ever gotten a gas card after a Bankruptcy? I applied for a couple right after Bankruptcy and was denied with a bad FICO. Now my FICO is in the High 600's a Year and a half later. Is it possible to get one within the 10 year mark??? If it is what creditor might issue a gas card?
Re: Re: Gas card... Many people have had good luck with Chevron/Texaco. I just received one with a $600 limit and apparently they offer a credit builder account to those they turn down for a regular account. Target is also a card that many use to rebuild credit. For more detailed info search here and at www.creditboards.com for Chevron and Target. Good luck.
