Gateway BITES!!! (long)

    Two weeks ago my laptop started acting weird, it would start running on battery even though I was "plugged in", then it would switch to the outlet back and forth all day.

    Well hubby and I were leaving for Florida that Friday, so i called Gateway and told them I needed a new adapter. ok fine no problem, you're still under warranty Kellie, we'll send it asap.

    So I explained to the "helpdesk" that I needed it by Friday. He told me he could only put in a basic order, but for me to call back Thursday and have "client relations" have it overnighted. Ok no problem!

    Instead of waiting til the next day, I hung up with the "helpdesk" and immediately called back to client relations, I got Lindsay badge #4798, I told her the situation, I heard her click away. She said "all set". I asked her, "So I'll get this by Friday, two days from now" She said YES.

    Friday comes, no part, i call Gateway, ell them I spoke to Lindsay badge# 4798, told them what she said, the "supervisor" said "you'll get it by the 22nd." Um....NO, I need it for vaca (by this time my battery was dead). I got the I'm sorry ma'am crap for 30 minutes. I told her to put me on with Lindsays supervisor (badge# 4798), the supervisor said she doesn't know what location she works out of. I said well what good is giving a badge#??? She said GET THISWe give out badge numbers in case a client has a problem, we can backtrack to find out where the problem originated"

    So i tell this woman that I will go to the local gateway store and buy the part, then I will bill Gateway for it, she says "we won't pay for it, you are taking this into your own hands and we just won't pay for it" I told her she was leaving me with no other option. She says sorry and HANGS UP!!!

    Now I'm fuming, I call my "local" GW store (an hour away), they are CLOSED!!!! So we go to Florida with the laptop in tow, didn't work once while we were there.

    The best part, UPS tried to deliver on the 21st 22nd and 23rd, well we were in Florida (which I had told Gateway), so UPS sent back the adapter. I called Gateway and they won't send another one until they receive the return shipment from UPS.

    I broke down and bought the damn part!!!!!
    I HATE THEM!!! I feel much better, thanks for letting me vent.

    Order tonight and get tommorow is a beautiful thing. But I've learned that IT never works that way when you need something...

    The most memorable situation. I order a Car Stereo from Crutchfield because someone permantly borrowed mine around last Christmas. Explained to the REP (on the phone) that I needed it on Friday (it was Monday). I paid for two day shipping and everything. He assured me I'd get it Thursday... It came in two day alright... but it was shippped Thursday!!

    The Gateway store and Gateway have a weird connection. If I were you I'd return it and tell it it was broke. It's only right.

    A "LOCAL" store wouldn't even exchange it???

    George-
    Nope! They aren't the same as the "over he phone gateway". They dont accept still in warranty things, in fact the guy said they normally don't carry parts like the adapter, but "happened to have one in". My luck it was probably refurbished and repacked in a nice new carton.

    Who knows, Dell or Vaio will forever get my business from now on.

    Make it Vaio - I am on a Dell at work, and I have not been impressed at all. Hard drive's been replaced twice, the new one is making noises now.

    I love my Vaio!

    The screen on our laptop started going beserk and now there is a big huge black spot on the screen. Same run around as everyone else. I will never buy a Gateway again.

    Crappy merchandise.
