HI, I'm new here and I am so happy to find this place.

Ok here is the thing. GC services is trying to collect a debt from citi(the home depot) they called me last week and said my debt is 3000 and I have 3 days to get all the money to them. Well I don't have the money and offered to make a payment arrangement, they told me absolutly not. this is my "only " option. So now I'm freaking out because I really need to figure out how to handle this without getting sued or garnishing of the wages.

I have not gotten anything in writting from them, and the lady I spoke too was obviosly reading off my credit report, because she was telling me if I didn't have the money in 3 days. I would loose my other accounts with citi (I have 2 other ones that are in good standing.) not only would they be closed I would have to come up with the 15,000 on the other accounts I owe or be in risk of being sued for that amount.

She also told me that they have the power to ruin my credit forever. When I told her I understand that it will be on my credit of 7 years, her answer was no your wrong at least for 10 maybe longer.

So I don't know what to do she said she has had the debt in her office for 3 weeks.

So how should I proceed. I absolutly hate talking to them, they are the rudest people I have ever heard in my life.

    thanks for any help.

    D

I forgot to add that I called citi about this account and they said they couldn't speak about it. So I'm assuming they don't even own this account anymore.

Just be calm first thing to do is to send them a dv letter by cmrrr, that will stop any collections for 30 days.DO NOT LET THEM BULLY YOU.You have certain rights do not believe what they tell you.they are bottom feeders.they have to prove they own it with document's etc.Stay on this site you should get more advice.remember be calm don't overreact.Welcome to the forum

Just say that you dispute the debt, that you want proof that it is yours, and if it is yours, an accounting of how they arrived at the balance.

If you want, include a statement that phone calls are inconvenient at any time, at any number, and that they should communicate only in writing.

Put this in your own words.

Send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

Ok so I just called GC services asking for an address. They didn't want to give me one. But I told them I wanted to validate the debt. So they gave me the address
    PO BOX 26999
    San Diego, Ca 92196

THey told me they sent out a letter on july 8th and now they legally don't have to validate anything.
They processed to tell me that since we are such dead beats we shoul look thru the pile of unopened mail we are odviously not opening.

He also informed me that they don't own the debt, they are contracted out by citi. So citi still owns it.

So I'm going to send the letter out today. is there anything else I should do? how do I prove they did or didn't send a letter out. Do they usually date the letter?

Definately follow the above advice and do not let them run you over.

I will say that I have had recent dealings with them over a paid debt. They proceeded to tell me they only hold collections for 6 months and that their computer systems only hold your account info for 2 years. I am in the process of having them delete something on my credit report because they cannot locate me in their computers. So please don't fret. They are trying to make you feel stupid and if they feel like you may not know what is going on then they will use that to make you pay.

Good luck with them because they are boogers to deal with.

I forgot to mention that they also sold my PAID debt 9 months after it was paid so IF you decide to pay them the make sure they give you a paid letter.

I also looked at my letter and the address that was on that was a P O Box in Houston TX and then the address that is on my CR is a physical address in Houston. Just an FYI for you.

Send the validation letter. If you haven't sent it already, start by saying "this is in response to your phone call of xx/xx/2008, which was my first contact with you."

That way they're going to have to prove that they sent something before that.

They want you to believe that they have no responsibility to validate because it's past 30 days since the initial contact. You want to say that this was the initial contact, and let them prove otherwise.

If you ask them for a copy, it's easy enough to make one up with that date. The longer the time before they have to produce it, the harder it's going to be to prove that it was done before.
