GEICO pulled HARD!

I am shopping for insurance (I have Shelters which does not accept credit cards and wanted to change it). While getting the quote I made clear that I did not want them to pull my CR. The lady said they would pull soft (I believed as other Ins Co. did the same) and let her do it. I do not know WHY I did that, but I regreted it after I read on the board about not letting them. Anyway, I looked at WK and it shows as HARD!

Should I send them NON PP leter? I did not submitted my SS with the application but gave it over the phone, but If they wanted to prove it with the recording, it will DEFINITELY say I agreed to the soft not HARD inq. She assured me, it would be soft and not affect my FICO score.

    I shouldn't have believed her! :(

    Any ideas?

I feel your pain. Progressive pulled a hard inquiry on me even though I have been with them for 2 years! They said they needed to pull to determine if they can lower my rates. I told them they did NOT have my permission but the lady I talked to said I gave it to them when I signed to become their customer. They reserve the right to pull anytime they want. It sucks! I'll be sending them a letter though. What is non PP?

I applied for Geico auto and told them I didn't want a Hard pulled, they told me no problem. Low and behold I got my TU and I had 2 hards from them. One from the most recent request for a quote and one from Sep. 2002. I think I am going to do something about this most recent.

    NON-PERMISSABLE

Whats the most I can sue for?

$1000 for each one per FCRA.

We use Prudential, and as all of the above, there is now a hard pull on our equifax report.
Went to Equifax to pull my score and report and now theyre selling our "car insurance scores".
Didn't buy it because I don't know what to do with score once I get it. At least w/ some credit issuers you know where you fico score stands--who knows w/ the insurance industry.

If you told a GEICO rep not to pull your credit and they did it anyway, write a letter to GEICO compliance department at the Washington DC address, and explain to them what happened and that you want the inquiry removed. The agent is NOT supposed to pull if you say no.

When they say it is soft, they mean it is coded as "insurance inquiry," not as an application for credit, and it should not be counted against you if you do apply for credit. GEICO's software does code for insurance, some companies use older software that does not code as insurance. But, regardless, GEICO agents have instructions not to pull if you say no.

If you really don't want it, don't let them talk you into it. If your credit is good, it can override a bad driving record (yeah, go figure).

I have seen 19 year olds with good credit who only have 2 years of driving experience get preferred rates.

I was getting insurance quote from Progressive insurance and they pulled hard inquiry from my Experian report. I dispute it and I told them it wasn't mine. Next thing they removed it within a month.

If you originated the transaction (i.e. shopping for insurance) they can pull either hard or soft. The FCRA makes no distinction between the two.

Also, $1000 is the minimum, not the maximum, you can sue for a non-permissible pull.

    Breeze,

I pulled my Equfax report and it says my "Auto Insurance score" is 733. Pertaining to Geico, is this good enough to get a good rate?

FARMERS IS NOW DOING A "HARD" EVERY 6 MONTHS ON TRANS UNION...I am going to send a CEASE and DESIST letter...I NEITHER HAVE A CREDIT CARD nor a LOAN with them...so they do not need to pull any kind of credit report!!!

YOU CAN NOT "SEE" HOW SOMEBODY DRIVES BY THEIR CREDIT REPORT!!!

I HAVE NO "BADDIES" BUT I STILL DON'T NEED THE INQUIRY HIT!!!

A "SOFT" WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! IT DIDN'T LOWER THE SCORE...SO THEY DO A "HARD" NOW!!!

Is this a fact? Do they really pull a hard on each customer every six months? I just became a GEICO customer 2 weeks ago. How can we stop them from pulling hard inquiries?

    From Progressive's website:

If we check your credit while giving you a quote, will that affect your credit rating?

Generally not. While the Progressive inquiry will appear on your credit report, it is clearly identified as an insurance inquiry. Fair, Isaac, & Co., the leading provider of insurance credit scores to lenders, excludes insurance inquiries from its credit score calculations. Likewise, Progressive excludes insurance inquiries from the information we use.

    ======================
They are doing this to lower your score so they can use bad credit as an excuse to raise your insurance premiums.

    FYI...

When I got my Geico insurance, I insisted no credit report and the did NOT pull one.

Additionally, you can no longer pay Geico insurance with a credit card. I used to always pay with a credit card. I am pretty pissed off about this and am thinking of switching my car insurance.

Breeze, why does Geico no longer accept credit card payments?

Don't accept CC? That was one of the main reasons I wanted to switch. No FF miles :(
