    I just applied for the delta skymiles classic card, 55 annual fee one, and called shortly after my application and spoke to a rep as they did not approve me over the phone, I told them I didn't care if they needed to spin off of my optima platinum, so I told them make delta 5,000 and make optima platinum 4400, they said fine, you're approved, I said cool and hung up. Called the number on the back of my card and pressed one for available credit and it said 4400 on my optima platinum. Anyways, am I in the clear or is this how your amex spin off deal started out and should I be worried? Also, does delta amex give double points always for wireless phone bills, gas, grocery stores, as well? And when they do have double pts promos are they targeted and do you have to sign up?

    I know it is a lot to ask but any insight you could offer me would be great. Thanks:)

    You'll always earn Double Miles on every eligible dollar you spend at supermarkets, gas stations, drug stores, home improvement and hardware stores, and the U.S. Postal Service. You can also earn Double Miles when you use your Card to pay your wireless phone bill and for Delta purchases. Plus, you'll earn one mile for every eligible dollar on virtually every other purchase you make with the Card.1 2

    DOUBLE/TRIPLE "TARGETED" YES (MOST OF THE TIME)...YOU MUST CALL OR GO ON-LINE...OR YOU DON'T GET THE MILES...8-12 WEEKS TO POST AFTER THE OFFER EXPIRES

    so you have to go to delta.com and register for the offer code, since you will recieve the offer code when you get TARGETED offer? How do you register for the double miles offer IF you are targeted? Also, as long as I have activity on my amex card EVERY month, then my points will never expire right?

    You MUST register for "TARGETED" offer or you WON'T get the miles.

    You MUST "earn" or "use" miles one time in 36 months or LOSE THE MILEAGE...

    You can sign up for IDINE and go to a restaurant for lunch and spend $5.00 and get 50 miles and you are SET for 36 more months!!! (IF YOU DON'T KEEP THE CREDIT CARD)

    I am planning to use this as everyday and use my rewards gold until the first year is up then cancel, because I don't want to earn xx,xxx miles every year and then hope they will give me a waiver for part of the fee on my gold card cause I won't pay 135$, I just want to get a card I am willing to pay the fee on, delta classic, get double miles at the places I do with my gold card, which it does, and get bonus offers from amex, which this card does too, and get free flights and not have to worry about calling MCS every year and begging them to waive part of my fee, ya know.

    yeah I signed up for the 55 dollar one because I AM willing to pay that amount for miles but not 135 for the rewards gold card, and the odds of me actually calling and getting part of the annual fee waived every year for the rest of my life is slim, so I am going with a card I am willing to pay the annual fee for, and not have to call and ask for a fee waiver every year for the rest of my life, like I would've had to have done for the preferred rewards gold card, calling to try and get the fee dropped each and every year. So the delta card makes more sense.

    GOLD IS $85 THAT IS THE CARD I HAVE...I probably will DOWN-GRADE to the $55.00 card...the only difference is the amount of miles you can earn...platinum has some COMPANION ticket...BUT I WAS TOLD IT IS FULL OF RESTRICTIONS...LIKE YOU CAN'T USE IT WITH A DISCOUNTED TICKET...SO IF YOU PAY LIKE $300 COAST TO COAST...YOU PROBABLY CAN'T USE IT...YOU WOULD HAVE TO PAY LIKE $700 FOR THE TICKET AND GET THE OTHER TICKET "FREE"----COSTING YOU LIKE $100 FOR A "FREE" TICKET!!!

    YMMV

    60,000---------->$55.00
    100,000-------->$85.00
    UNLIMITED--->$135.00
