Has anyone applied for and been approved for any of the Get Smart Visa products at www.getsmart.com offered by Providian?

If so which level (classic, gold, platinum) and what were the limits you received?

    Thanks!

    Hey NiceGuy

    How are you?

I got approved for their Gold Get Smart - the limit was gonna be $2500 - regardless of what we see on the web.

BUT--- Providian jacked my interest on my current card to a threatening 25% - so I snapped that account closed, THEN, transferred to GetSmart, told them I did not care that the card was about to be mailed - I do not want to do ANY BUSINESS W PROVIDIAN.

I cancelled about a week or ten days back.

TODAY, I opened the mail and there was an offer to apply for that new Providian Clear Smart Card.
Amazing, how after a GREAT customer cancelled 2 weeks ago, I now get the offer for this one.

I pitched it. I do not believe Providian is a reputable company - although they did report and now I have Nextcard and AMEX.

Getsmart is just aria in a new disguise. I applied for it and got classic, which is basically what I have with aria only better terms. I requested platinum getsmart but they said not for a few more months, but still increased my limit and lowered my APR. (This is on my aria, mind you, but it'll be switched over to getsmart in july). It doesn't hurt to apply; if you don't like the terms they offer you, all you need do is decline. :)

Hey, Dogman! I, too, received the insert in my 5/01 stmt for my existing Visa gold from Providian (currently at 16.9 APR/8K limit, NO Grace, $39 Ann Fee, had since 1997).

It stated, though, that my rate would only increase to that ridiculous amount if I failed to miss two consecutive payments in any 12-month period.

I had hoped to updrage my existing gold to plat, but was told by retention that this was not possible at this time, since their systems aren't linked.

So, I wondered if getting GetSmart gold would enable me to upgrade to GetSmart plat since they are on the same system and do have a grace with no annual fee at least(still keeping old prov gold just in case).

    What do ya think???

    Later!
