Get TU score free -when disputing

I have initiated a limited number of disputes over the telephone with TU this summer. The reps were polite and did follow through with the investigations.

Twice when I got the results, I contacted TU and asked for my score. The rep gave it to me over the telephone immediately.

The third time, the rep said he wasn't supposed to give the score out but that as I was initiating yet another dispute - I would receive a score with the results of the investigation.

I just received the investigation results and my TU score - 818. The letter confirmed that the TU score range is 150 - 934. It used to be 150 - 950. Also, included are 4 key factors affecting my score.

If I dispute again with TU over the telephone, I will make a point of requesting the score along with the investigation results. Actually, it is unlikely I will ever dispute again over the telephone as my score is fairly high.

One thing that does bother me is that the TU reps are not consistent with their answers related to the release of credit scores.

    For what it is worth,

    Jim

They will not give me a score over the phone but have been good mailing it to me.

They recently merged my report with another person of the same name who has good credit so I got a lot of new positives on my report. I am disputing one a month, saying "not mine" and asking for a copy of the score with my credit report. This helps me keep up with the score each month.

What are your scores with the other two CRA's? I am curious how they match up with TU.

Just be careful with TransUnion's scores. They are about 50-60 points off from actual scores that the car dealer/mortgage lender sees. When the mortgage lender pulled my report I had a 732, but when TransUnion sent me my score I had a 796. It may not be this way for everybody, but that's how it worked for me.

    Hi Tom!

The comparison of scores is not relevant in my case.

The TU score includes 30 positive tradelines (11 are open). Also, 2 discharged BK credit card accounts from '98 but no public record.

EX was 728 when the credit union recently gave me a loan. No derogs at all. Same number of positive tradelines.

EQ has public record of my BK and 3 discharged credit card accounts. Same number of positive tradelines. My last scorepower was 673. I believe it was June when I received it.

Remember that the scales are no the same and a 728 on EX is worth more than a 728 on TU.

    Dani,

Isn't this disappointing. If TU is going to give out scores, they should be realistic.

I am going to cancel Creditexpert because their CE score ws 27 points off from Experian.

    CE = 701
    EX = 728

    Jim,

It is disappointing. I don't understand how they can sell us fake scores. The only score that has been similar to the one the lender pulled is Equifax's myfico. But hubby's was off by 6-7 points. I haven't looked at Credit Expert, so I can't say how far off that is.

    Take care,

    Dani

    Hi Dani,

In fairness, I think the CreditExpert score is a generic score. Therefore, when we apply for auto or credit card loans different models are used to calculate the score according to the loan type requested. This is just my opinion based upon my personal study of credit scoring.

Also, I enjoyed CE for a couple of months. I have now cancelled it out of boredom. My credit is prime these days and where I live - CA - 90% of lenders pull Experian which is a clean report.

did you get your money back?

    Hi Marie!

As I said on the other board - I am glad you are back safe and sound from Italy. Sounds like you had a great vacation despite what has happened.

I informed CE that I could not access my account due to that ridiculous "pop up window" on their new website. They made the change and I can't access. This is all true.

Therefore, I asked for my money back. CE responded saying that they will prorate the $79 fee.

However, I also lost interest once I got misspelled names, addresses, 14 hard inquiries, closed by credit grantor account, etc. off my report.

Also, when I tried to get a 15th inquiry off - EX verified twice and refused to let me dispute again. A portent of things to come????

Thanks for the info regarding Citibank on Lizard's thread.

Good to have you back. You were missed.

    Jim
