I'm going on a business trip in a few weeks and will be staying at a pricey hotel for 10 days. My company will reimburse me after the fact, but I need to use one of my CCs for the hotel. The problem is the hotel I'm staying at requires $5k credit on my card in case I trash the room, in addition to the daily rates. I can't swing that on my current CC available limit. I REALLY don't want to have to deal with my company on this as that would be a nightmare on many fronts.

Is there one or two CC providers that typically provide a higher limit than others on new cards?

My FiCo is currently at 699 +/-10 if that helps.

Try Citi (the American Airlines AAdvantage card used to be fairly easy, I don't know if it still is or not).

Others that I've had luck with are Chase (United Visa, Marriott Rewards Visa are the ones I have, but others may be easy to get) and Bank of America.

American Express Delta gave me a $25K limit but I have a pretty long history and scores over 700. They might give you at least $10K, you could try.

Many banks match the limits you have. You might want to call the one you have and ask for a credit limit increase.

Or, you could try getting several cards and putting deposit on one, hotel on another, and still another for meals, etc.

I remember some people here had good luck getting two Citi cards. I don't remember if they were both AAdvantage cards or not.

Anyway, you apply for one online, when you're approved apply for another. Then call and combine them into one card with a large limit.

You might try searching for AAdvantage and see if you can find out more. It might have been called BDD or something like that, try searching that as well.

One more thing I just remembered. I think some have gotten pretty high limits at Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Web site is here.

If you follow the links to join, you will find that anyone can join. You have to join the National Military Family Association (I think it's $20, one time fee) and then you can join the CU. You don't have to maintain your membership in the NMFA after you join the credit union.

If you qualify through one of the other options, go ahead and click it. If not, keep clicking through and at the end you'll get the chance to join both NMFA and PFCU.

Why can't you use a company card??

I certainly couldn't do a deposit like that.

Some companies (especially smaller ones) don't have company credit cards. I worked at a small company for a while and I had to use my card and be reimbursed.

As with anything, it can be good or bad. If you don't have a lot of credit it's bad because you have all kinds of problems getting or keeping credit and you tie it up with work expenses. But if you have decent credit and something like a rewards card, you can really rack up miles or points or something. I don't know about a rebate card--there may be some obligation to pass the rebate on to the company. But miles and points can't be used by anyone else.
