I am going to try that and see what happens. I was always afraid of doing that because, well because it is mine. But I guess now I am getting pretty desperate. And I know that sometimes it is pretty hard to verify judgements.
Just make sure that the address that you were at when the judgement was rendered isn't the same address you are at now. It should come off. Good luck! :-D
They are 1 step away from getting their money. They already have a judgment against you and what I can't understand is why they haven't tried to collect the money? It's like having a winning lottery ticket but not going to the office to get the money. Where I live, if you obtain a judgment against someone, all you have to do is go down to the local Sherrif's office and present them with the order and your place of employment. For a small fee, they will have your wages garnished. I guess maybe in your case, the creditor doesn't know where you live maybe??? I guess my question is, how are you going to get a judgment against someone, jack up their credit, and then not bother to collect the money? What was the whole point of going to court??? I had a judgment against me (by default). I didn't show up to court because I knew I owed the money. When they won, they didn't bother trying to collect the money ($1200). Then like 4 years later when I found this board, I disputed it (on TU and EX...never was on EQ) and it was deleted from TU but updated as Satisfied on EX. Note: The address that I lived at where the judgment was served was deleted from my report BEFORE I disputed it on EX and it still came back verified and updated. On TU I deleted the address before disputing and it came back deleted. Side note: I think if I remember correctly, EX pays someone $50 to go down there to verify the record. I don't know what the other CRA's do. Before the judgment was satisfied, I was able to get Providian with no problem. After it was satisfied, I've gotten instant in store approval for 2 credit cards, 1 bank card, and an auto refinance through my CU. I believe that having an uppaid judgment is an automatic decline when going through a score driven application for credit.
Thank you. That is very encouraging. I am going to satisfy the judgement. I have been thinking about putting it on one of my credit cards. The judgement is for about 2300.00. I know my score will go down, once that amount shows up on my card. Then I will probably do a balance transfer to one of my wife's cards, because this card is Providian right now. The judgement is over 5 years old, and I think it has little affect on my scores, but getting approved for credit, I know it would still affect that. One question for you though. Did DOLA start over? There seems to be some type of confusion with that.
I'm not sure if it did or not??? I don't have a current cop of my EX report and I don't subscribe to credit monitoring of EX. Maybe someone else can answer that???
