Well, I gave them the check this morning. There is a 10 day hold to make sure it clears, but after it does, they will fax me the app for new info, and then I fax back and get my card in a week. I will have a WHOPPING 700 dollar limit.... I asked for more and was denied... Did I do good?
I think you did good. My TU score is 645 and they won't give me a new card. Had an account with them back in 1998 that was charged-off...I paid them back in full and was never offered anything like that. I'd like to get an AMEX again...think they might accept someone who wasn't given an invitation to apply? Hey, gimme that 1-888 number!
CONGRATS Mongrol!! You did GREAT! And you will improve your credit scores by showing a new AMEX Revolving Charge established. AMEX is actually fair on people that had issues with them in the past. As long as you finally pay the old balance, they will normally give you another chance. You proved it again! That Optima is a nice looking card
888 number... the max limit on the card is 5k. They do reviews monthly which should help as well... I was even told by the lady that I had perfect credit with them, the I just stopped paying... she asked.... what happened?... I told here... got laid off... She said that Amex changed their attitude after sept 11th since so many people lost their jobs and companies closed. They had to give people a 2nd chance. The 888 number is 888-232-3261

am i missing something, you paid them and you have to do a new app for a $700 CL. i thought the deal was make the payment and get a optima card. what recourse do you have if app is denied ? you sent money for nothing, i can't believe nobody can see this. you did good ? i don't think so, you are putting a lot of faith in someone on the phone.
Will they report your previous account as paid charge-off account to credit bureaus after paying your old charge-off Amex account? It's not going to be that simple and of course it's going to have a catch. I don't trust them that much. They're not going to be that easy for giving that other Amex cards. Ron.

It makes sense that a application must be filled out. No company is going to give a customer a card without updated information for their records.
the application was the only thing that I was curious about. The did say in writing and over the phone that I would recieve a card. They said the main reason that they were doing this was after Sept 11th, so many people lost their jobs that they had to give previous "good" credit holders another chance... (on the phone) I can't wait to see my TU score!!!! It has gone up over 100 points in the last couple months..!!!
