I have had some modest success with validation and disputes, but my credit score is remaining about the same. What are some easy ways to get new credit? I really only have two good open trade lines and both are for car loans. What to do?
What kind of credit were you looking for? Retail cards, major CCs, etc. Also, how does your credit reports look? Give us a little bit more information and we can go from there. Dani
Okay, here goes: Scores: TU 452 (dropped 65 points after I had a neg item removed) (8 neg items remain, originally 13 neg.) Exp. 518 (7 neg items remain, originally 12) Equ. 565 (7 neg items remain, originally 12) I don't have any credit cards or any other types of accounts other than my student loans, which are in deferrment, and 2 car loans which have never been late. I have several accounts that I have paid off that are in good standing: a furniture account, and two autos) I know to repair my credit I need to start adding positive stuff, not just getting the neg removed. I want to know how to go about doing that. I figure I need a couple of credit cards, but I am not sure what other type of credit I can get or need to get. Thanks, Chelsea
I would start with some secured cards. The more reputable ones seem to be cap1, direct merchants, umbrella bank. You don't want to get stuck with one of those unsecured cards that charge you account set up fees, monthly participation fees, this can get very costly. I think your scores are too low to really even get many of the subprime unsecured accounts. Anyway the secured accounts tend to have better terms. I would start from there as far as building good credit.
I have to agree with dimitri. Your scores are still pretty low. Get one or two secured cards and pay off the balance in full each month. As those accounts age your score should go up (as long as your debt ratio is in tact). After six months of holding the secured cards I would contact the CCC and see if they would upgrade you to an unsecured card. Good luck. Dani
I can't get jack from a rabbit let alone a secured card and I only have 1 <=====Derog! I have a Target retail card and a stinkin Fingerhut card. Link me up to umbrella? is it decent?
They state they aren't accepting anymore applications on the site. So I have to give them 500 dollars to get a 500 dollar limit?
You can get subprime unsecured cards if you don't mind getting a 250.00 limit and your card being charged 150.00 bucks as an "account set up fee" and paying and annual fee of 60 bucks and 8.00 a month for account maintenance. I would take the even money card any day over those crappy cards. At least I know I have a savings account that I will get back someday. Just my opinion.
Hi I am in about the same position as you are the mid to high 500's One positive line I have gotten recently (don't laugh)..lol is from http://www.crossingpointe.com They are a womans clothing online store. I chose crossingpointe credit on check out . I ordered twice from them in May They pullled a hard inqury on equifax (my score is approx 565) both times which kinda bothered me but now on experian crossingpointe is showing as two new positive lines of credit. so I am not complaining now hehehehe. Check it out good luck !! BTW Crossing pointe is a division on Blair clothing but Blair pulled transunion and denied me credit with them I am in southern California Jamie
