I noticed in the FAQ section that some people have had results in getting paid charge-offs deleted from their credit file. Heres my situation. I had a credit card from Discount Tires opened around january of 2000. In July of 2001 they basically charged off my account to a collection agency. Right now the account is showing on my credit file as "account transferred or sold. Charged off account". I paid the collection agency sometime last year in full (and actually paid a bit more than what the original balance was. I only owed $909 and I paid the collection agency $972). In this type of situation, could the chargeoff be deleted? Its been almost 2 years now and Im not sure if anything can be done. This is probably the worst thing thats currently showing on my credit file, and if it could be removed I would be thrilled. Can anyone clear this up for me?
did you dispute it with CRAs as not mine? Do that and in the meantime, send Debt Validation letter to CA asking them :" Why the hell is this thing on my credit report? Show me the proff or delete it" Send both of them via CMRRR and hold on to your green slips. Once you get the green slips wait a little bit. If the CRAs comes back as verified, send them another letter and show that you send the request for debt validation to them but you didn't get the response. Good luck
Acutully, I would just dispute as not mine. Don't contact the CA, because you might be waking a sleeping dog. In other words most of the CA'S are busy trying to collect money owed to them. They really don't have time(time is money) to respond to CRA's. If you dispute as not mine it will probobly just fall off!!
Ive actually disputed one of the chargeoffs (which was salliemae for a student loan) and they verified it as being correct. Should I actually try disputing it again? I have 2 charge-offs on my credit report and its killing me! Has anyone else had luck getting these things removed when the chargeoff is legit?
I wrote some angry letters. I didn't dispute as "not mine" and I don't advise anyone to do so; It's too easy to prove. Write them a letter saying that the account is being reported incorrectly and that, as a result of their errors, you've been denied credit. Leave it at that. See what happens. It worked for me. In the meantime, you should try and re-establish yourself with a secured card or something.
