Hi, I've been reading the info here to try and clear our credit report up a bit. Husband and I each have FICOs around 670-685 , we have about 40 accounts in good standing on each report and no potentially negative items. We do have several old lines listed as "account closed at credit grantor's request". When I read about that statement here it seems to be associated with accounts that have been charged off, but I am fairly sure we have had no chargeoffs. The thing that brings are scores down is the fact that we've played the BT promo games and getting the best credit offers game resulting in several newer lines, and closing many of the older ones. However, I'd like to clean up these "closed at credit grantor's request" with a status of "paid/never late". Some is from a creditor I don't know who they are like ANBCC and Mercantile Bank of Illinois. Should I dispute these as invalid? Also, Discover with a status of "inactive/never late" should I close? I had a settled 6 year old cc deleted from my credit report thinking it would be a good thing to have a charged off settled cc removed. I did not consider the age of the account being so important and lost a whopping 38 points. Needless to say, it hurt.
I was just turned down from Citi for their highly promoted credit card. Why? Because I had some I9's on my report. They were old!
