My first goal is to raise my credit scores to 650 (and beyond!). My BK7 was discharged 12/01 and my current scores are: EXP 541 TU 575 EQ 578 Where should I start? Here are some of the things that pop out at me -- which will give me the highest possible improvement? TU is reporting my mortgage as being discharged in bankruptcy when it was, first, re-affirmed, and second paid off in 10/2003. FNCB MasterTrust Account, last reported 9/03 (as 30 days late), closed and "reported by subscriber". They filed Bankruptcy themselves last year, I was never late. 10 lates on a car loan between 1998 - 1999. I wasn't late... the credit union erroneously added insurance to my payment which I refused to pay because I was fully insured on my own policy. Every month I didn't for their insurance they reported me as late. Grrrr. 4 credit card accounts "closed by grantor" between 1994 and 1999. 'Closed by grantor' is a Bad Thing -- right? 15 Hard Inquiries since 6/2002 -- 3 of which are probably correct (or at least authorized by me) 2 judgments still showing on my credit reports (from 1998 and 1999). 1 was paid in 1998 and the other was discharged in BK in 2001. Equifax is showing the BK twice -- once as 'filed' (10/01) and once as 'discharged' (12/01). Experian is still reporting (as of 2/2003) on a Balley's membership I had from 1989 - 1990 (which was closed by me and paid in full -- no lates). Is this hurting me? So -- where do I start? and... can I send 4 dispute letters to each CRA or should I not send more than 4 total? Thanks for your help! Kat
Its funny, those who have the worst credit, often have the best cases (not meant to be a slam to the poster about his/her credit-disclamer for the negative nellies) WHERE DO I START?? Well, The "norm" answer would be "VALIDATE VALIDATE VALIDATE". In cases of post bk, what is there to validate? The "problem" arises at the credit reporting agencies. ONE dispute letter to EACH credit reporting agency is sufficiant. BE VERY SPECIFIC in the dispute. DO NOT put "not mine" etc. MAKE PERFECTLY clear to the minutest detail. Check your credit report for inquiries AFTER BK, from creditors who were discharged. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST OVERLOOKED "violations"
I would start by reading for a few weeks to a month before doing anything, to avoid dumb beginner mistakes that most of us have made. Use the search function, and new members must reads. As of now they are most likely the best tools you have. Search for anything, and everything regarding your case. Search for the CA that has your accounts, because most likely others have dealt with them. Search, Read, Search, Read. Be patient and absorb right now. It will be better in the long run. good luck
