Last week I found out my Equifax score was 681. I applied for a CITI Platinum and received a credit line of 5K. I transferred my balance from Emerge (Providian) immediately and my APR went from 29.99% to 0% for one year! After all this time I finally left the Subprime market. Is 681 a good score?

Congrats! You made a smart move. 681 is a very good score. You are in prime land.

Go get your AmEx green, if you don't already have one. Might as well get your feet wet all at once. Score will dip, but it will come back up.

That's what I call a success story. Congrats! I have heard awful things about Emerge. You will notice quite a difference in customer service.

I always enjoy hearing the success stories! I have a 637 Equifax that just won't budge. I want a Citi card in the worst way but can't stand the thought of applying risking being turned down. I'll just be satisfied, for now, to bask in your glory. Congrats again

Yea, it's all good until Citibank finds one bad thing on your credit report (and they check it almost every month) or if your late one time. If that happens, they'll yank you right back up to that 24%+ rate.

Congrats, tuguy. I know what a good feeling it is to say goodbye to Providian. The previous poster is right about citibank and many of the other prime issuers. As long as you pay on time every month, you'll be ok. Paying online is the best way since it's impossible to control what the post office or the bank's processing center does.

Maybe I've been lucky, or that I've had my Citi since 84, but charge-offs, collections, a 120 late on another card and Citi never jacked my rate. Now MBNA on the other hand...

Nice! :) Congrats....Providian sends me almost 2 offers a week @ 16.9%....I keep stuffing them with valuable money saving coupons, but I still haven't received a thank-you letter from them yet. Maybe I'll send them a note with a letter stating that each coupon is worth 1/100th of a cent in value! They'll earn a penney from me in no time at all!
