I have good credit and have always paid my Visa card balance in full. I just bought a big ticket item on my card, and wanted a new card to transfer balance to--just to delay the pain of interest for a month or two, when I'll be able to pay it off. BUT, it looks like the cards that offer low intro. rates also charge 3% of the balance for a transfer--which would be the equivalent of a 36% APR if I only carry the debt for one month. Any suggestions? Thanks
RE: good credit and need balan Your timeframe is too small for me to help. But must balance transfers are free of the fee. The reason must of these cards offer the transfer is to get you to owe them. I know Discover has a 9.9% APR for balance transfers. You may want to give them a shot. http://www.creditsense.com
RE: good credit and need balan Try nextcard, they have rates as low as 2.9% and they do not charge for the transfer. I got them and I didn't even have 2 years of credit history. www.nextcard.com
RE: good credit and need balan How about Blue from American Express? I've got it and their platinum. The Blue card has 0% APR for 6 months and 9.9% on balance transfers. No annual fee, too!
RE: good credit and need balan Actually, the new Discover Platinum has 2.9% for 6 months on transfers, no fee.
RE: good credit and need balan Citibank has an offer with the 3% balance transfer fee but the maximum fee they can charge you is $29.00. They have just introduced offers with this 3% fee so if you apply fast enough you might get an offer without a fee.
