What are good department store cards? Iâ??m trying to build my credit history and reading posts overhear, I believe I should apply for some of department store cards. I was thinking about Macyâ??s, Sears, Target etc. I would like to have one which REPORTS to all 3 CRAâ??s, and with dissent service. And also, I wouldnâ??t prefer to have one more hard inquires in my report if I donâ??t get card. Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks! Denny
Strangely enough, the full-priced department store cards may be easier to get than discount store cards. I got Macy's and May Co. cards before I got Target, and before I got turned down for J.C. Penney and Kmart. Sears is one of the hardest to get. I recommend Macy's or your local store on fds.com, and also your local store on mayco.com.
My brother got turned down for Walmart for too many accounts. He has 10 credit cards all paid on time. Funny how underwriters think.
Careful with this one. It just reported to EX for me and it shows my high balance as my CL like Target and Cap One does.
BUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Lazarus is a cool store so I was thinkin about their card. (Keyword: "WAS") If, upon review of your application, FDS Bank determines that you do not qualify for the rate of 21.6% APR, you agree that we may consider you for an account with a rate of 24.9% APR and if approved, you accept such rate. If a Finance Charge is imposed, we will apply an ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE of 21.6% (daily periodic rate of .05918%). B. If you do not qualify for the rate shown above, we will apply an ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE of 24.9% (daily periodic rate of .06822%), if a Finance Charge is imposed. This rate will apply until you have had 12 billing cycles with no amount past due, at least four of which had a balance greater than zero, at which time the ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE will be reduced to 21.6% (daily periodic rate of .05918%). Yeah, I'll rush right out and apply today. lol
Butch, I would imagine you have credit cards at less than 21.6%, but for people who are building or rebuilding credit, retail cards are an excellent alternative to subprime bank cards. Only 21.6% with no annual fee? For some people, that's a great deal. I'll admit that 24.9% is more than I expected from a retail card. And remember that the APR is totally irrelevant for people who don't carry balances. So the most affluent people, those with the most options, can actually profit the most from retail cards, at whatever APR. They can enjoy special discounts or easier returns without ever paying a cent in interest.
Re: Re: Good department store cards? Target reports to all 3. That's the only store card I have so don't know about the others.
Re: Re: Re: Good department store cards? Is this Target Guest or Visa? I heard some people had problems with them, is this true? I don't want to complicate my life, I just want to boost my score and establish history. Thanks!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Good department store cards? Thanks for info! So as I see I should go for Target guest card. Is it better if I apply on line or in the store? Thanks! Denny
Re: Re: Re: Re: Good department store cards? I haven't had any trouble with my Target card. I've only had it since April. If you apply for the Visa and get turned down they automatically consider you for the Guest card. You have nothing to lose trying for the Visa. If you apply online they normally run Equifax. In the store I'm told the use Experian. See which report is better for you.
