My first round of disputes for hubby and I were sent to Experian about a month ago. They deleted my Sears account which was paid off but was listed as "paid for lesser amount" which I've heard is very damaging to the credit score. On my husbands report....they deleted 2 collection agency accounts from Montgomery Wards. There were 3 listings for Montgomery Wards, the 3rd one, they updated the date of last activity as 11/2001, the date they received the verification from Experian. Now it says this account will remain on his credit until 11/2008. What do I do about this? The date of last activity on my old report says 6/1998 but now that they've changed it, the 7 years starts all over again.
Ignore that for now, and just dispute it again. Don't send them anything to prove the dates That's what they hope for - you verify it yourself.
thanks Breeze..that leads me to another question. How often should I do the disputes? Should I take a fews weeks before sending them again?
Do another "round" now. Do all the cra's at the same time. You can also do about 4 disputes per letter.
Yes, I would. They are likely to ignore you if you dispute it again right away. Legally you can, but you will be creating problems for yourself if you do. Dispute something else, perhaps.
How much info do you normally give in a dispute? Do you just say "Not mine" or do you dispute something specific about the listing?
That is exactly what I meant. Star didn't say whether she was disputing the same item again or if she was going to dispute something else. I would wait on the same one, but do disputes now if there is anything else on there.
