I have been with Capital One for 3 years and have never been charged a membership fee of 59,00 until now. Never late and CL of $4000. Spoke to retention and they only agreed to wave half of the membership fee. Since I have prime cards now (Bank One, BOFA, Fleet, Chase) I canceled the card. They did not make any effort to keep me. Maybe the reason is I haven't used the card for several months. Anyway, good riddens.

    Good for you!

Someday I hope to call Cap 1 and tell them to pound sand.

Currently it's my oldest tradeline dating back to 1996.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

Sound like you got the same lame letter that I did..."We've made a business decision to make changes to a segment of our portfolio...we did not base these changes on your account history or behavior (Yeah, right!)"

Congratulations on giving them the boot--and on getting them to cut your fee in half. I had no luck with my phone call at all.

I dumped HOUSEHOLD (YEARS AGO) when they decided to charge me an annual fee...BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!

You did better than me, I couldn't negotiate a 1/2 membership fee. I even bluffed cancellation, but they wouldn't budge.

I only keep them around so I can add others as AU to it. My limit is pretty low and this is my oldest cc.

OK, mh1757, how did you knock half off the fee?

I asked to speak to a supervisor and the lady practically laughed. She said, they're just going to tell you the same thing.

BTW, my fee is supposed to be $48 annually--after 4 years of fee-less, blemish-free relations. What's up with that?

Answer: Ask for the retention department.

This is best decision you can ever had!. CrapOne only works when you are starting up or rebulding credit. After that is useless.

Cinderella, when I closed my Cap One Also my oldest credit line. my scores did not change too much, as matter of fact they improved some points. i suggest you that if you already have better prime cards dump CrapOne ASAP. Don´t pay any anual fee for that card.
