I filed chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2005 and paid all of my creditors back 100%. I still however am left with the derogatory marks on each of the trade lines that were involved. I would like to send a goodwill letter directly to each of the creditors. I have the addresses and account numbers but am not sure if I should be sending them to a certain dept. or individual. How would I know who to send them to. I don't want to simply send them to a black hole where they are lost and never seen.

Also, should these letters be certified. Thanks for any info that might help me out.

For most creditors, I think your best shot is just sending it to the address listed on your credit reports. I wouldn't direct it to anyone in particular either. You know, use "Dear Sir", or something similar.

I happen to think sending these types of letters directly to the CEO of a big national corporation will most likely get you nowhere. However, the hope is that if your letter gets funneled to some mid-level manager who reads your letter, he/she will most likely make the decision on the spot and you might get lucky.

Oh, and always send your correspondence CMRRR.
