I wrote to Sears asking them to please have pitty on me and take off the late-payments on my account, that since my divorce I have made timely payments so give me a second chance, please.

    Here is their response:

    "Thank you for contacting Sears.

Federal credit reporting guidelines require Sears Credit to report the credit
account in both your names since you were an authorized user of your former
    spouse's account.

However, we may be able to remove the history of this account from your credit
bureau report for the period from the date of your divorce. If you would like
us to consider such a request, please call us at 1-800-917-7700 so we may
collect the necessary information. Once we have this information we can request
that the credit reporting agencies update your credit bureau report.

We hope you visit us again soon at http://www.sears.com."

I know in the past I have read here that it is a BAD idea to contact a collector and offer them more info, but what about this case?

Is this a vailed attempt at getting me to validate the debt with address/info, or are they really going to help?

    Thanks in advance,
    Vixie

Oh I don't know if it makes a difference, but I submitted the letter via planetfeedback, and this was the email response

    Thats pure BS
    So the lates were pre-divorce?

I'm assuming you are current since you sent goodwill. Couldn't hurt. [/QUOTE]

Are you just an AU? You could always remove yourself as AU, and dispute the thing away.

No unfortunatly I am a joint card holder I believe. See here is the deal:

We opened the account on 09/1996, the month we got married. On my report it states for them:

    According to Equifax:
30 days past due 02 times; 60 days past due 01 times; 90+ days due 03 times.

According to worthknowing the late dats are:
    30 Days: 03/31/99
    90+ Days: 08/02/1998, 07/02/1998, 06/01/1998

Then on 02/18/99 we went to Consumer Counceling and they began paying on our behalf, which brought the account current, or so I thought, but it seems from the reporting dates on worthknowing report, that the account was still being reported late for a while.

I didn't get divorced till 07/15/00, but you know how a marrage can be leading to a divorce, paying our bills was one of the reasons we got divorced over.

    So now what??

Thanks again for all your help,
    Vixie
