    Unbelievable but true.

My recovery from my BK and credit nightmare in '98 continues.

Last May, Mr. M gave me back my $10K Platinum card that I had voluntarily closed in "95 when I was getting a divorce. However, the card came with the 11.9% apr. I had in '95. I felt so fortunate to get the card that I certainly did not argue. I asked for 9.9% but Mr. M said that 11.9% was the best he could do - End of subject.

Yesterday, I called Cap One and a supervisor was more than happy to grant my request for a permanent 9.9% fixed apr. as I offered to do a balance transfer on the spot from another visa card. I explained truthfully that I intend to have one and only one visa card balance carried from month to month.

Under these circumstances, Cap One wants me to carry a balance with them. I agree.

Recently, I read that their are 38 million Cap One personal and business customers. The overwhelming majority of customers probably wish they were with someone else. It wasn't too long ago that I had a measly $1 secured card with them myself.

Today with the help of the board, I have 7 visa cards. My Capital One Platinum card has the best terms of the 7. Ironic, isn't it.

    Thanks again to the board!

    Best regards,

    Jim

    Jim, about that reinstated tradeline:
How does it appear on your reports: opened on x/199x or on 5/2001?

    Thanks,
    Saar

Congratulations, Jim. You seem to have rebuilt your credit well past the point where most people ever build their credit.

Welcome to the club. It is ironic that Cap1, while conservative, has more departments and routes to slowly work your terms better while increasing your limit.

I have several Cap1 cards, all with now outstanding terms (all completely prime). No annual fee etc. The most conservative lender is also now competitive on my credit lines without me having to combine.

Cap1 Platinum is one of the best prime cards so I also feel very proud to have it. When I leave a balance I only leave it on Cap1 now... they certainly have earned my interest.

What's interesting is that all my reports still show the bk, and yet Cap1 still shows me tremendous respect when I call. I am always treated as only prime.

    Terms for new cardmembers:

Available rates for Amex Blue are (all fixed): 9.99%, 10.74%, 12.99% or 14.99%. To be considered for the 9.99% rate, you must apply online.

Available rates for the Citi Platinum Select are all variable (P+x%), where x is anywhere between 0.9% and 12.99%

On a side note, Jim: Somebody needs to take a deep breath :)

    Marie,

I agree completely. Cap One is definitely my best card in terms of benefits and customer service. And they have ALWAYS been respectful with me.

    Jim,

Congrats on the 9.9% apr. I got that recently, too, simply by saying I wanted to continue carrying a balance on the card (spoke with con. advocate's office...) and needed them to give me an apr that matched my other cards. I'm calling next month to get a $1000 increase to move me to Platinum status.

So, I decided not to wait until next month. I should get my new card in 5-10 days! :)

Btw, the consumer advocate told me that they have just modified their credit limit increase policy from 9 month waiting periods between increases down to 6 month waiting periods between increases. I had gotten my last one in May and was on hold until February, but he gave me what I asked for today, citing this change in policy as the reason why he could.

Thanks Jim and Marie for your posts about your experiences with Cap One.

Hey all, that's great news and congrats. I have FCNB and just entered the Cap 1 world thanks to this board and the positive experiences with their consumer advocate. So far I got a K-Mart Gold low limit, but hey it was a pre-approval and I am just a year out of BK so I will use it a little and wait to ask for anything. Also recently got the Gold Visa, had to secure that one with $99; asked if that could be waived and no go, but my annual fee of $72 was waived.

My husband just got his second Cap 1 Gold MC so he'll also use that awhile before asking for anything if they don't do it on their own. On his other card he just got a credit increase only three months of having the card. Don't know why so soon, but happy about it.

So we'll see how it goes. Maybe someday I, too will hit Platinum. I could never get a Platinum anything even when my credit was good.

    Thanks to all who responded:

Marci - Your beautiful PlanetFeedback letter to Cap One posted on the PF website. This assisted me in my correspondence with Cap One last spring.

Marie - You are a negotiator!! As I recall you were very creative in combining Cap One cards to go Platinum. Also, you got 9.9% before I did although our credit history is similar.

Saar and Richguy - Expertise with Citibank. I follow all your threads. Saar is an AMEX man. I used to be both a AMEX and Citibank customer. Hmmmm. Maybe later on again. I never would have said this a year ago.

Dlo64 - Your Platinum card(s) are in your future. Just stay on the board. You are making great progress.

Long live the board. Without it, that measly $1K card would today be a measly $3K card with a 19+ apr.

    Thanks again,

    Jim

    Hi dlo64!!

I found the this board by accident 1 year ago. I wish that I had known about the board 3 years ago.

I never heard of FCNB until Dogman or someone mentioned it. The one thing I would do differently in my post BK credit recovery would be to obtain a secured FCNB card 3 years ago and then convert it to an unsecured card. However, I was not aware of FCNB 3 years ago.

In my disucssion with FCNB a year ago, I was very impressed with them as a lender. I think it is excellent that you are a card holder.

Check out the credit unions. They have been very helpful to me in my credit restoration.
