I've had their cards for the last 3 years and have an almost perfect history. I originally had scores in the 500's when I got their cards and now I'm in the 700's. My card with them has a limit of $2500 and they offered me a card with an annual fee and up to a $2000 limit.

I threw away the pre-approval forms and a telemarketer called today to pitch this card. I refused, but they didn't even try to offer a card that matched my current prime card that I'm using. Didn't these people check my credit or even want to retain my business?

They base future offers on the credentials you had when you applied for the other card. In other words, they're giving you an offer based on the 5xx score you had way back when, and not your current score. You have to close the old accounts to get an offer with better terms.

So that's the secret. I have a Cap 1 card with perfect payment history 6+ years.

I've maxed the CL for reporting purposes on a few occasions.

I have never ever received an offer from Cap 1 for another cc product.

I cannot drop them since it is my oldest active TL.

Can't wait for the day to call them and say adios....

    Best regards,
    Mirage

George, I tried that last summer. Spoke with Mr. Cooke himself and all I got was 3 hard ones and a $300.00 boost to show for.

I'm done with Cap 1. Just have to wait for the bk-13 to fall off and recover from the 45 pt. FICO drop.

At this point in my life having a cc for the sake of it is not a need. My goal is to have a cc with decent terms and a CL that will increase without me begging every 6 months.

I really cannot wait to either sock draw or cancel my Cap 1, Providians and even my Target Visa.

Don't get me wrong these cards were great in helping me rebuild my credit but there will come a time I would like to be treated as a prime customer instead of a cc thinking that they are doing me a favor by extending my a high APR and a low CL.

I honestly do not think the Cap 1's and the Providian's will ever change their business models. They may tone it down for whatever reason but sooner or later they will go back to business as usual mode.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

I've had very good results from Providian and terrible experiences with Cap 1. My annual fee hits on August 8 and if Cap1 won't waive it, I'm cancelling the card.

My Best Buy card has a credit limit exactly the same as my Cap 1 card. What's up with that?

Now you see why I'm so anxious to get that artificial CL reported on EQ (still not there)...want to get away from the Crapital One noose and I definitely can't do it with a screwed up limit inflating my utilization.

catnap, if it was not for this forum I would not even know what Cap 1 was doing with our cl and the utilization.
