Hi All I just got a letter from the Washington employment dept. saying they have a judgement against me from the superior court and want me to contact them. WHAT DO I DO?!! I have no idea what a judgement is or how it even got here. It for an overpayment they gave me for 7k and want back... Please help!
Sounds like they gave you $7000 more than you were entitled to. They found their error and probably notified you of the overpayment. They got a judgment against you because you did not respond to their notices? They went to court and convinced the judge that you legally owe this money, and a judgment was entered against you The judgment will appear on your CR's in the public records section and your credit scores will drop The judgment will remain on your CR for 7 years from the date it is paid, and it will accrue interest until paid If you do not pay it, it is probable that they will put liens on any real property you own, they could empty your bank accounts, intercept your tax refunds, and maybe garnish your salary. It is highly likely that you will not qualify for a mortgage or a car loan with an outstanding judgment
Ok, what is this Sherrif's sale and all that I keep seeing? Are they going to garnish wages or is all ok if I just pay them on a new payment plan? I actually declined the letter from USPS but they called me to double check address is how I know about it. Yes I do owe the 7k, have no problem paying it in bits just havent started yet. Do I need to talk to a lawyer or should I try to contact them and setup arrangements or is it too late? How much can they take? I have Bank of America account that is out of state and a car I am still paying on.
Re: Re: Got a judgement.. what to do??!? I don't know how they operate in WA State. They said to contact them, so you should do so. The judgment is final and you will take a hit on your CR's and Scores. The best you can hope for now is that they willl work with you and set up a repayment plan, but you better call them before they do file any liens. Also if you have any money in the bank you might want to make it harder for them to find it by opening an account out of state or by putting it in the account of a friend you can trust!
Re: Re: Got a judgement.. what to do??!? Your best bet will be to contact them and see if they will accept a payment plan. You never know until you talk to them. Just because you are willing to pay it back does not automatically mean they will work with you on payments. They usually are more open to payment arrangements before it gets to this point. If they are not willing, then come back and post/vent and we'll go from there. PD has a good point too, you might want to remove your cash from your accounts and put it somewhere else. As far as cash goes, they can't what they can't find. Read this thread: http://consumers.creditnet.com/stra...eadid=51081&highlight=judgment+proof+yourself As for removing the judgment, if you are super lucky you might get them to agree to vacate after payment is made in full if. Get in in writing of course. Peruse the laws of your state about judgments and read up on the topic on here and online. From what I have read, many have had success removing a paid judgment from their CRAs.
