This was actually a really stupid thing to begin with. It was a $12 balance on a hospital bill, but it was showing up on EQ as an unpaid collection. I sent them a check for $12, with a letter saying, Hey, Idon't think this is mine but for $12 I'd rather just pay it if you'll take it off my credit report. Yeah, I know I should've gotten it in writing first, but I figured I'd fight it later as a paid collection if they reverified it after it was paid. To my surprise, in the mail today, no letter, just a UDF form, delete, reported in error. Only 2 collections left on EQ now. One is $41 and the other is $96 - both utilities. Both REALLY old. Now the interesting part - we'll have to see how long it actually take EQ to delete it. By the way, do I keep the original and send EQ a copy or do they have to have the original?
