saying that "Your Sears Premier Card has recently been changed to Sears Card." WTF? I called up Customer Service and the CSR was very helpful and said "I don't know why that happened; that only should happen at the customer's request." We chatted for about five minutes, and he repeatedly displayed that he did not know anything, and was incapable of independent thought. I don't really care what my Sears card is now called, as everything else has stayed the same, I was just wondering why they did that? Particularly after I just sent them a large payment. Hmmph, go figure. Sears is already on my hit list, this weirdness just confirms why.
I hate SEARS, yes I do, I hate SEARS (and their 24.74%), how 'bout you? Sorry, felt the urge to vent!
I have nothing to contribute to this except: I HATE SEARS TOO. I just found some old sears account info from a couple years ago, and the balance was actually lower back then, than what it is now that it's charged off. I hadnt bought anything with that card for 10 years. I was paying the minimum for years, but i guess with all that interest and occasional late charges the balance never went down. I tell everyone to NOT GET A SEARS CARD. Yes, I realize that it wasnt Sears's fault that i didnt pay my balance in full every month, or that i went thru a period when i couldnt even pay the minimums. They are just really nasty and vindictive, and that interest rate should be illegal. They also shouldnt be able to give cards to young, naive 20 year olds (which is what i was when i got the card, lol)
I hate sears also! (my rate was more reasonable at 13.74, but they wanted to jack us up to 17.99%, so we closed it.) I don't know if this has anything to do with this thread, but remember that Citibank has acquired the Sears credit portfolio and there may be some changes coming to the Sears card lineup. Hopefully this is GOOD news for current Sears Cardholders. No word yet if you can combine your sears account with another Citi account (yet). I love Citibank, but I can't stand the old OR the new softer side of Sears Customer Service.
"Sears customer service" HA. there's a strange phrase. I've dealt with MANY customer service reps over the years and Sears' reps were the dumbest, rudest, and most spiteful half-wits EVER. Even when I was in good standing with them, they were very condescending when I'd call.
My son started out with a Sears Card. He was trying to get a good mix on his reports and Sears made a nice addition to his MC and VISA. Then one day, they mailed him a Sears Gold MasterCard saying they had converted his store card and lowered the rate for 21% to something like 9%. Well it's hard to complain, but this left him with no store card and his FICO dropped like bricks the very next time Sears reported. Solution: I added him to my JCPenney and Target Guest cards. Later he got a card from his employee (Kohl's). It took a few months, but his scores came back up. It was a double-edged sword.
I applied on-line for a Sears card on Dec. 29th. Mainly just to help my mix, currently I have 4 visa/mc and a gas card. I was shocked when I got declined. They pulled tu that was at 689 with no derogs, no lates, no legals, 5 years good credit history... It will be interesting to get the letter and see the reason.
My son was declined at first, too. When the letter came it said, "can't verify address". So he mailed them back a copy of one of his other cc statements, photo copy of his driver's license with address along with a copy of their letter. A few weeks later he got the Sears card in the mail.
Mine was converted to the Sears MasterCard. I don't remember how long I've been a cardholder, but a long time. I seldom use it, sometimes for appliances or something.
I also got my Sears card when I was a dumb 20-yr-old college student; it worked out well at the time as I had a car with bald tires and an empty apartment in need of furnishing. So I was quite popular with Sears for a while, charging up a storm, and they decided to "reward" me by making me a Premier cardholder. Now, a few years later, I've stopped using my Sears card completely (I can't even remember the last time I used it, maybe two years ago) and focused on paying down the balance, since their rates are astronomical. I just gave them a large chunk of cash, and they rewarded me this time by downgrading my card from Premier to the regular ol' Sears card. Gee, that certainly inspires me to run out and buy a Kenmore, thanks Sears!
