from an unknown company saying that they have been trying to get in touch with me re: an unsecured credit card limit increase of $4 grand. This looks like a phony ad or some crook trying to rip me off. It just has an 800 # to call. What do you guys think? I am afraid to call them as my credit is not good enough to justify this. I recently joined C.E. and C.W. and suspect they are selling our email addresses.

On the other hand, I am a Nextcard customer and it did occur to me that this may have something to do with them even if no Bank is named.

It seems to me that a reputable organization would list their name, at least.

It seems odd that they would email you saying they had been trying to get in touch with you like that.

    IMO, be careful...

If you do decide to call, do it from an outside phone. You cannot block your number when calling an 800, 888, 866, or 877 toll free number, and you don't want them having your home phone.

Doesn't sound legit to me. Don't know of any c.c. company that would discuss any account matter in an e-mail. I know GEORGE, for one, couldn't even get Target to e-mail him as to whether they would lower his APR or not.

Also, a legit company would have their name plastered all over the e-mail.

I don't think this would have to do with Nextcard either, most of their accounts are going to be closed, and the rest are going to Merrick Bank (I believe), and from what I read, they're subprime, and no sub-primers is going to give a credit line increase of $4k.

WHY WOULD THEY NEED YOUR PERMISSION TO INCREASE THE CREDIT LIMIT???

Only one out of a MILLION credit card holders would have a HISSY if they didn't ask!!!
