Thank you sister girl. I am pleased so far.

I just got another offer from them - everything on the offer is exactly the same - except that this time it is for a MC as opposed to Visa.

I do not want too many inquiries, so I will keep building one positive account. And if I were to get more inquiries, I would rather try for a retail card like Target or OfficeMax etc.

Congrats and welcome to the Cap One Family!

I started with a $300.00 card 2 years ago and now have 2 Platinum cards (small limits) and the Classic.

Just be on time and don't go over and more will come. I have even gone over by a buck or 2 and had the fee reversed AND recieved a limit increase!

This is a great start to your new financial future!

Thanks for the message, Hermit! I plan to take good care of this one.

Can you expand on the 'fee reversed AND received...'

    Thanks.

Sure. On occasion, I have gone over the limit by a few dollars. I did this recently. I called and asked them to reverse the 29.00 over limit fee. They are usually good about it. I told them that I wanted to get as close to the limit without going over. Cap 1 doesn't report credit limits on the creditreports so I charge as close to the limit as possible to get "hi credit" posted.

My point is that if you can get the fee reversed, the face that you went over by a few dollars usually doesn't hurt you when asking for a limit increase.

I just PFB'd asking for an increase and to combine cards so when the results are in, I will post.

Well just got off the phone with Mr. Cooke...

Couldn't combine while maintaining the old trade line
as the oldest one is a classic card and it must be at $5000 to "up grade" to platinum. Combining meant that I would have to move it all to my existing Platinum Card which is just 4 months old.

Also wouldn't do the increase at the same time. So I settled for doubling the limit on the classic card.

    Hermit5,

I just got the Cap1 card and I want to know if I charge up to the CL and then pay it off before the statement date if that is the best way to make the card work for me, score wise?

I'm afraid that if I charge it all the way up then it will report my balance too high and have a negative impact.

Whats the best way to do this?

    Thanks..

I can't be certain as I am far from expert on Cap 1 internal system.
If I were you, I would do a search here under Cap 1.
There is a person on the board who is very knowledgeable about Cap 1 internal system.

I have heard of several people who do just that maybe even a few times a month and are in the best graces of Cap 1. I can tell you what not to do and that is make only minimum payments each month while maxing the account.

I will say that with the knowledge here I have gone from a $500 limit last December to 3 acounts with them, 2 Platinum and a total of $3000. limits. 600% increase in 6 months with rotten credit.
