Got the first of my reports from equifax in the mail Saturday. Just got time to really sit down and look it. do these guys get much of anything right? My middle initial is wrong on the report although correct on the envolpe it was mailed in. It has five previous incorrect addresses in another state that I have never lived in. A tradeline for a bank card with a $5,000 limit from a bank I have never heard of in my life although it reports a $0 balance and pays as agreed. 5 collections accounts from another state corresponding with the incorrect addresses all medical collections. Makes me wonder if someone with the same name as myself except for the middle initial living in another state report has somehow gotten merged with my own what a nightmare and mess. rdburt
Sorry to hear about your credit history inacuracies. This is why It's extremely important to check your 3 credit reports at least once a year, you can dispute all of the incorrect information on your credit reports by writting to each credit bureau, also when you contact each credit bureau ask them to put a "red flag" on your account so that no new accounts should be opened and listed in your file without your permission. Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes today and your credit history should be guarded better than gold. Here's an excellent article by CNN on the topic of identity theft and how to prevent it, I think it applies to your current situation. I hope it helps: http://money.cnn.com/2001/05/18/living/q_consumerqa/ Good luck and stay safe!
