What do you mean they tried to serve you? Did anyone at your residence receive anything? All I can say is refuse any papers that come to the door until they tell you what it is. Do not take them, and do not touch them.

Based on what you're stating, you weren't served any papers. If you are positive that the debt is past the the SOL at the end of this month, then they have only a few days to actually find you and serve the papers.
