Got home last night and my DH was on the phone with US Bank regarding his Northwest Airlines Visa. It seems that when we were in Mexico earlier this month someone scanned his Visa number and has been using it in Cancun. This person used 9/14 to purchase gas in Cancun the same day my DH used it to purchase gas in MI.

The Rep wasn't that helpful, she keep asking if he used his card a Sam's Club and he keep saying no. While we were down there we guests of a friend of ours who has a time-share in the resort were we stayed. This was one of those "cash less" resort, everything must be charged to the room. We only went out to dinner 4 times and what shopping we did went on my cards. There were about 6 charges that we couldn't account for. The Rep asked if one of the restaurants was really named "Sam's Club" and we just forgot, or translated it wrong.

In the back of my mind I know something like this would happen. Whenever we would go out to eat the waiter would bring the bill, we would convert to US dollar and give his card. The waiter would then take the card and "run" it but wouldn't bring it back to the table when we were asked to sign the receipt. I got pissed at one restaurant and said I wouldn't sign until I got the card back. He gave me a hard time, saying that he needs to verify the signature. I said you can do that the table, gimme my card. He finally pulled it out of his pocket but he must have had over 5 other CC's in with ours.

Well US Bank closed the account, well be issuing him a new card and he has to file all those fraud forms. We called the friend who was with us and told her to check her statement.

    Next timeâ?¦ pesos only

That does suck! They can verify your number at the table. :-(. Whenever I travel overseas, it's best just to get the currency. ) Except for Australia...for some reason it works out better when you use the card.

Also, I never use the credit card, only debit.

I hope everything gets resolved for you. :)

It's routine for them to ask you to sign a fraud affivadit and that should be the end of it.

Be sure to dispute the charges that are not yours in writing within 30 days of receipt of your statement.

Doing this will protect your rights under federal law.

The CCC will tell you that you only need to call it in, and they may honor the phone call. But if you put it in writing within the time frame, by law the CCC has to honor your dispute. That way they can't come back later and refuse your dispute.
