Hello all... I disputed a tradeline on my Equifax report using the standard "Dispute debt" sample letter found in the Sample Letters forum. Today, I got a notice from EQ dated 4/27/05 indicating that they have deleted the tradeline from my credit file. The TL was from a Sears account opened in 3/1997 and a date of last activity of 12/2003 which is incorrect. I have not had contact with them since sometime in 1997 and the date of first deliquency was also sometime in 1997 while I was in college It was listed originally as "Transfer/Sold" with a $0 bal, $0 past due and $0 chargeoff amount. This is on a printed report from EQ dated 4/25/05. Unfortunately, I still have the collection account for the Sears account still on my report indicating that the account is "Over 120 days past due", with a $0 bal, $0 past due and $0 charge off amount which seems awfully strange to me. Any suggestions on how I should attack this tradeline? One problem is that the account number attached to the TL is different from the original Sears account number so it may be difficult getting the credit bureau to realize that this is referencing the Sears account that was recently deleted or suppressed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
read ih8debt's thread entitled Jenz! to see how what she did. maybe you can post in that thread and ask for specifics on how ih8debt got hers removed. <<disclaimer - am i only ASSUMING ih8debt is female. apologies if i am incorrec>> -Jen
What I did - I searched the fourm - do the same and enter these exact words 120 day late status Look for the post "Chevron & Macy's Key Contacts" (don't know if that will automatically link to the post) I got a lot of good ideas from a poster named Quixote I read and read every post under those search terms - then I decided to call the OC and use the "your incorrect information on my account is keeping me from securing a mortgage" (which is true, but i'm just not looking for a mortgage yet) The rep was very nice, understanding and apparently having a wonderful day ;p and ended up deleting the tl from all 3 cra's.
Did you ever write a Validation Letter to the creditor? If the date of first delinqency was in 1997 it should have come off your report in 2004. Of course the CA has reaged the information, but if it really was obsolete by 2004 you should be able to get it removed, or else sue the CA for damages!
Have you tried to dispute simply not mine to see what will happen. If the oc does not respond it will fall off anyway.
I thought about just waiting until it falls off...however, I just got a new job that requires security clearance and I'm in the opening stages of that process and I'm trying to get stuff cleaned up as best as I can. This is the only baddie showing up on my report currently. I guess my question is that if the original creditor's tradeline was deleted shouldn't the collections item be deleted for this account as well? (assuming that EQ deleted because of the account being obsolete). I've never had contact with the collection agency, nor have I set up a payment plan in the past or anything like that.
Re: Re: Got the orig creditor TL deleted yes it SHOULD have been deleted but sometimes the CA reage information or change account number...you need to send the validation letter to the CA, and then dispute as "Obsolete" with the CRA
