    the attorney for a creditor. They agreed to settle my $13,700 debt for $4,000. I feel like I just hit a hand of blackjack for $9,700 right now! (which is probably a bad comparison because that's what got me into this mess in the first place but whatever). I have one more card to take care of and then I have my life back...

    Thought I'd share a happy story here for a change...

    Good for you, and thanks for sharing.

    Not to rain on your parade, but don't forget that the $9,700 may still be considered taxable income. I don't know what your personal financial situation is, but you should look into that to make sure you don't get surprised when tax time comes around.

    Get everything in writing too, and try to stay away from those BJ tables this holiday season :).

    Yeah, I'm aware of that...

    I'm going to have a pretty hefty tax bill come April. It won't be fun to pay, but I think I will be able to handle it and it'll remind me of how much debt I had wiped out this year.
