I have a Target Guest card with a $200 limit. I've only used the card once in the twelve months I've had it. Today in the mail I got a Target Visa with a 3K limit. The letter told me to cut up my guest card and use the new visa from now on. I never applied for this. Has anyone else had this happen?

Ed- search old messages this happened back in August/September of last year - Target mass converted 3 million guest cards to Visa cards.

Looks like they eval. after 1 year and decide to "upgrade" or not.

What terms did you get? Many folks here have been able to successfully get the rate lowered prior to activating the card by 1 notch (18 to 15 or 15 to 12).

Congrats -- the 10% off cards (you get one for every $1,000 you spend at Target) are nice.

Thanks for the info folks. 18.9% ouch, I have 12 flat with Citi and Capital One. I'll try and get it lowered.

Ed, they will lower it one level just for calling. But don't expect it to change after that. They are locked in with their policies.

On the same type of note,

My fiance had a plain Sears card and after 2 years (of non-usage) they upgraded her card to a GOLD MASTERCARD with a $4200 limit! Later, they INCREASED the limit to $4800! Needless to say, we're using it a little more now!

I'm thinking of applying myself so I can get a Sears Gold Mastercard with that type of limit in a year or so.

I think Sears and Target are the only 2 department store cards that do that. Are there any others out there that are worth looking at?
