I've been trying to get my two year old, Cap 1, 600 dollar CL increased for over a year. I had good luck last year via PFB getting the 59 dollar annual removed but was told I'd have ask every year since they "couldn't remove it permantly". I applied for and was approved for a Cap 1 Lowes Visa(which can be used anywhere). It arrived yesterday and the CL is 5000 dollars with no annual fee. I'm closing that rinky dink 600 dollar card! I just don't understand why I had to get another card rather than being given a decent CL increase!
If you really want an increase, do what my DH did. He called Cap1 and was put on hold twice when they asked him why he was calling (he said "to close my account"). Both times, they hung up on him after hvaing him on a hold a few minutes. He called back a 3rd time and ask to speak with a manager. He told the mgr. all he wanted to do was close his account but kept getting hung up on. The manager asked him why he wanted to close and he told him because he could not get an increase and was not going to pay the annual fee of $49 for his lousy limit. The manager doubled his limit and credited his account for half the annual fee (whatta guy!). Granted, he WAS going to close, this was not a ploy to get an increase.
If they offered to increase the CL AND remove the annual fee for good I might keep the card. I have 3 other cards which do not charge an annual fee and I am offended at paying one *LOL*
I agree, annual fees should be reserved for people who need to build up to better credit. I suggested he cancel the card, not go for a credit increase. I was pretty irritated they charged him a $49 annual fee with a $200 limit. Now that's pathetic.
The really pathetic thing is I got two offers at the same time for cards from Cap 1. One was no fee and the other was with a fee. I sent in the wrong app and never could get them to remove the fee*LOL* The card was a great credit builder for me as I was emerging from Chap 13 so I won't complain!
