    During the past few weeks I have been getting numerous (10+) message from what I assume is a collection agency. They are calling for somebody else(thankfully) and are leaving very terse messages. I haven't been able to talk to them, they always call while I'm at work. I have called the number back to tell them they have the wrong person and they are SOOOOO rude!!!! They tell me they will make "note of it" and that is it. I keep asking them the name of their company and they refuse to tell me. When they answer the phone they just say "what is your reference number". I am really ticked today because I just checked my messages from work and my answering machine is FULL!!!! I'm expecting an important message and may have missed it because of them. I am so ticked!!!!
    Is there anything I can do short of staying home to answer the phone when they call!!!!???
    By the way, their number is 1-877-770-6318. Does anybody know a reverse directory for toll free numbers?

    You can file your FDCPA suit against:

    Creditors Interchange LLP
    80 Hertz Drive
    Buffalo NY 14225

    Serve Process on their Statutory Agent:

    Gossel, Krieger & Newcomb
    295 Main Street Suite 501
    Buffalo NY 14203

    Does this help?

    LOL!!!

    Don't forget to call your phone company, report the harrassment, and request a log of all the incoming phone calls. Also, save those messages on your answering machine!

    ryder can the phone company really give you that ? They always tell me there is no way to have a history of calls to a phone which is bullshit. The FBI can do it, how can I ? What specifically do I ask for ?

    Is that the number on CALLER ID???

    Or is that the number they say to call.

    I have CALLER REJECT along with CALLER ID/CALLER ID WAITING...I don't think it works with TOLL FREE NUMBERS THOUGH...

    It comes up "out of area" on my caller ID. That is the number they leave on the message for this person to call IMMEDIATELY!!!!
    Flyingifr: Thank you so much, I don't know how you got their name but I can't wait to go after them now.

    Do you think I should save all their messages. They literally leave over 10 a day. My answering machine doesn't hold very many, especially because they are quite detailed leaving the number, extension, their name (not company name) and the reference number and then the YOU NEED TO CALL AS SOON AS YOU HEAR THIS MESSAGE. YOU MUST CALL IMMEDIATELY. I EXPECT A CALL IMMEDIATELY. etc....

    I sure am glad I'm not the one they're after

    Do you have a second tape recorder...or can you go buy one for $10 or $20? and record the messages...(AND BUY EXTRA TAPES)...

    You can report them to your "LOCAL" SECURITY DEPARTMENT...maybe they can do something...

    LB - Here's a link about Andersonville (I'm pretty sure this is the Andersonville Ryder's referring to): http://www.cr.nps.gov/seac/andearch.htm

    If I'm thinking of the correct Andersonville, Hangman's Hill is the place every prisoner dreaded, but probably looked forward to.

    If that webside piques your interest, try reading "Portals to Hell" by Lonnie Speer.

    Not all Rocket Science on how I got that info. First I called the number you gave and asked for the name of the company. They provided it. Then I went on line to the New York State Secretary of State, Corporation Division and did a lookup under the name I was given.

    Voila` - the name, address and Statutory Agent's name and address right in front of me. The Statutory Agent is the one you have the summons served on.

    We had a collector calling our house and leaving a message for someone we had never heard of also. Now we live in Texas, and the Attorney General has this little bit on his website:

    State law prohibits the use of harassment and abusive collection tactics. It is illegal for any debt collector to:

    1) threaten violence or other criminal acts;
    2) use profane or obscene language;
    3) falsely accuse the consumer of fraud or other crimes;
    4) threaten arrest of the consumer, or repossession or other seizure of property without proper court proceedings;
    5) use the telephone to harass debtors by calling anonymously or making repeated or continuous calls;
    6) make collect telephone calls without disclosing the true name of the caller before the charges are accepted.

    So after 3 successive phone messages in the course of one day, I returned there call. I first asked for a mailing address and next advised the representative that the person they sought was not known to us and was supported by the fact that we had only lived at our present address for about 1-month and this was a new (to us) telephone number. I then advised the representative that further calls would be in violation of Texas state laws. Furthermore, they were to take this as verbal notice, and that we would also be notifying them in writing, that we would tolerate no further phone calls!

    The representative back tracked a little and began to relate some sob story about how it would take a few days to update the companies databases but I cut her off and stated that this was their companies concern and not mine! I reiterated to her that one more call and the wife, who happens to be a very good attorney by the way, would be filing the necessary paperwork to intiate civil suit in state court and we would seek no less than $5,000 per phone call (kind of a nutcase type deal).

    After that, we sort of got one more call a few days later which started out in the same basic format but ended abruptly just before the part were the rep leaves a telephone number. At this point the callers tone changed as he suddenly told us to disreagrd the call and the message ended. I guess the database got updated as there has not be a single call since.

    I had the same problem a few months ago (I posted here about it & also got good advice). They were calling my cell phone & being real jerks. Anyway, once you threaten to sue them a couple times, they eventually stop. I ended up changing my cell number because not only did this woman have collection problems, but she also had many personal problems as well. I won't get into it, but I have never received weirder phone calls. I called Cingular and told them the problem, and they changed my number for me. I was getting more calls for this woman than for myself.
