Help! I just purchased all three credit reports and fico scores (very good scores, I was surprised). All seemed fine until I saw two inquiries on TU report: one from Portfolio in Pennsylvania and the other NCO Financial. Have no idea why they are on my report. I never authorized either of them to pull my cr. A customer rep at TU was not helpful and said I needed to take it up with the two above-captioned companies. Anyone know how to get rid of these? Do I have any recourse?? Thank you and Aloha to you all, fused101
I am just starting this battle with NCO. I found an inquiry and TL on my report. I sent a blind DV and NCO sent back a letter stating they could not locate my info. I am sending one more letter and then will file complaints with FTC and AG. NCO is not a nice company so start with that in mind.
Since you could not locate my information, then please return this letter with a certified cashiers check for $1,000.00 for pulling a consumer report without a permissible purpose, in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. (Depending on your state's consumer protection law (and possibly their own version of the FCRA), you may have additional penalties. And some states allow those damages to be trebled. They may decide to bend over backwards to locate your information.
On the topic of inquiries... Under the FCRA, there is no such thing as a SOFT INQUIRY. There are only TWO types of inquiries. Inquiries (Consumer Reports) and Promotional Inquiries (Limited Consumer Reports). Promotional Inquiries (Limited Consumer Reports) are the only type of inquiries which the FCRA requires to not be disclosed to anyone except for the consumer. The SOFT inquiry is a CONVENIENCE to the consumer which allows companies to obtain the consumer's consumer report without it (a) affecting your score, and (b) being disclosed to other parties.
