In the process of cleaning up credit reports, received all three and on one of them Capital One has put hard inquiries on my report at the rate of almost once a month (only two months in the past year they haven't gone in and in one month they went in twice!!). Can someone tell me why they are doing this and what I can do about it? I do have two Cap One charges, have had them for over 9 years and was late once (30 day) in 1999, otherwise I pay on time each month and pay more than the minimum. I use these charges alot because the limits are only $500 and I can't get in trouble with them. Any suggestions as to what I can do? Much thanks -
Not to be a doubting Tom, but Cap One does pull lots of reports, but mine are always soft. What report are you looking at, and what does it say?
It's on Equifax, but it doesn't say anything, it's just listed on the page where they posted all the inquiries that will remain on my credit report for at least a year. I recognize the others, but they were one shot deals, this CAP 1 thing is all over the place, and like I said, in October, 2002, they went in on 10/10 and then went in again on 10/19. Thanks.
P.S. to jlynn: Sorry, I forgot to add that the listings on both CAP 1 accounts are R1 and listed as paid as agreed and shows only 1 late 30 days for each back a few years, otherwise it's been paid on time.
Do they have AR listed beside them? If so it is just an account review which Cap One does about every month. It is a soft inquiry and does not hurt your score.
If it says "AR - Capital One" its a soft inquiry. If it just says Capital One its a hard.(This is on EQ, it varies among the CRA's) If it definitely a hard, you need to contact them and have them recode it. They pull almost every month on me as well, I think that is just standard operating procedure for them. But they should be coded as AR's! Is your report coming from an affiliate? You really need to confirm whether these are hards or softs.
Oops! Yes, they do say AR before them. Guess you can tell I'm new at this. So anything without the AR would be a hard. I went by the code box on the bottom of the report and obviously misinterpreted what I read. Thanks so much to you both for your enlightenment! I'm a learning, I'm a learning!!
On Equifax, anything that shows only the name of the company without some alphabetical key in front of the name is a hard. On TU - they separate them under three different headings, seen by others, only seen by you, and Promotional inquiries (limited info is given) On EX - They show requests by others, and everything else is lumped together. You get to guess whether they got your full report or header info only. Hope this helps!
Re: Re: Hard inquiry question The other way to tell is that it only stays for one year. Hards stay for two years. Hang in there LRM.
Re: Re: Hard inquiry question Again, thanks so much to you all. Only been on board for about3 weeks, but I LOVE you guys, all of you have been so great.
