I just got up today and pulled my PG scores as usual. I found that my score dropped two points overnight. I couldnt for the life of me figure out why. Then I looked at my inquiries and found a hard pull from Retailer National Bank. Can these people do a hard pull if I have not applied for credit from them? This is gonna KILL my scores as I am trying to get them up to buy a house. What can I do to get this off?

ahhh...I DID apply for the Target Guest card about a week and a half ago. Why did they wait until NOW to pull credit though? I completely forgot about applying for that card, and that would explain the pull. Thanks for the quick response.

How long does a hard pull actually HURT your scores/

Hard inq's will affect your score for 6 months, but will remain on your report for 2 years. If you are getting ready to apply for a mortgage, I would suggest you not apply for anything tll after you are approved. Also, a loss of 2 pts in your score is not going to kill your score.

Further, I believe PG's score is not a true Fico score. I think it is provided by CreditXpert. If you pull your real Fico, you'll most likely find that the inquiry cost you from 5 - 10 pts. Several of us have found that hard inq's usually cost us 7 pts each.

The actual score, 6 months (SO "THEY" SAY)...BUT you can still get DENIED for "EXCESSIVE" 15 month old inquires...
