Hi, Can someone explain to me what is the exact difference between a soft and hard credit pull? Also is this somehow related to in-profile pull from banks on home loans? And how do you know which pull that the creditor will do? I also had some bad advice from banks themselve, including a capital one rep that tried to sell me a yearly credit bureau service (cant remember which one) but he kept on trying to sell me the fact that their service will not pull your score down compared to other services, that will pull your score down, even if you requested on your own.. I tried to tell him that it does not matter where or how, but if I am pulling my own credit, it will not bring it down, but this guy that worked at the bank was telling me that it will... go figure.. thanks, Mike
When YOU get your credit report for YOU...it MUST be "SOFT" (WON'T HURT SCORE) When you "APPLY" for a credit card or loan it is 99.99% of the time "HARD" (HURTS SCORE) If you ask for a LIMIT INCREASE they may do a "HARD" or "SOFT"...if they are going to do a "HARD"...it MAY or MAY NOT be worth the increase...YOU HAVE TO DECIDE...I SAY DON'T BOTHER FOR A "HARD"...I DON'T WANT THE 7 POINT "HIT" YOU HAVE TO ASK..."HARD" vs. "SOFT" AS FAR AS A SPECIFIC CRA...IT IS A CRAP SHOOT Some credit card companies have a "USUAL" CRA...SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITH THE WEATHER OR IF THE SUN IS OUT AND HOW MUCH RAIN IS FALLING AND THE NUMBER OF CARS THAT GO PAST YOUR HOUSE IN A GIVEN DAY...
