How can I tell the difference? I'm looking at my report but I just can't see it.

Depends on what you're trying to see... :)

There is no difference between hard and soft, EXCEPT that a SOFT doesn't get displayed to anyone who pulls your report, and it doesn't get counted in calculating your scores.

If the company which pulls an inquiry doesn't have a PP, it doesn't matter if its hard or soft because the issue is whether or not they had a PP to obtain your report at all, and not whether they did any 'damage' by pulling your report.

Well what I'm trying to distinguish is what pulls on my account might be hard vs soft. For instance, there are a few on there that are run by current CAs, does that show up as hard? And what about those that run it to see if you qualify to send "apply now" card/junk?

Depending on the report which you are looking at the inquiry types should be separated.

Inquiries which are seen by others are *HARD*.
Inquiries which are not seen by others are *SOFT*.
Inquiries which are not seen by others, and only received your basic information are *PRM* inquiries.

EX may be the only one which doesn't clearly distinguish between the PRM and SOFT (at least from the report that I received in March).

EQ uses the letter codes to distinguish which type of inquiry the inquiry was.

TU breaks them down into three sections close to the above description.
