I sent a validation letter to So Cal Edison. They sent me a letter back detailing the account. When the unpaid bill went on the credit reports, etc. Notes the account is paid and then goes on to say

"Please contact xx directly at xx, we need you to provide to us a social security number so that we can notify the credit bureaus to remove this item from your credit file."

Didn't they have the ss# when they put it on the credit file?

Does this sound hokey? I am hoping this is legit because it would be an easy deletion.

Let me know what you think.

They DIDN'T have it when they put it on...they DON'T need it now.

That's kinda what I thought. They must have had something to put it on the reports.

    Thanks, George.

I think they have access like a "CROSS REFERENCE PHONE BOOK"
FIRST, LAST NAME~get phone # and address
    ADDRESS~get phone #
    PHONE NUMBER~get name, address

They probably can just imput it with FIRST, LAST NAME, ADDRESS, AND PHONE...DON'T NEED SS#

I think what I will do is have them send me the letter of deletion and I will forward it on to the CRAs.

I have gotten very protective of our info and I don't want to give it out.

Thanks, George. I guess great minds think alike. :) LOL

I would tell them they put it on there without SSN, they can damn well take it off or get sued.

This is a case of "been there done that" for me! I would first send them a letter telling them that they put in on there then they can take it off! If that doesn't work and they keep asking you... AND you really want it off... you can offer to send them the last four digits.... NOTHING MORE..!!!!

My lawyer told me that it would hold up better in court(small claims) if I done it this way.
