Has anyone had and significant credit limit increases from Household bank? I have had the card for 2 years and it went from $300.00 to $500.00 in that time frame... Does PFB work???

They are a total waste of time.

I had a "pre-approved" letter from them in January and I took this as I wanted to build a credit history having only been in the US a few months. Like you, I received a $300 credit line which has never increased despite paying this in full each month and having another Household account (they issue the Costco charge card) which has a $3,000 credit line and is always paid in full.

yes, they're one of the easier cards to work up, actually. Call retention directly every 91 days and tell them you're thinking of canceling the card. they'll give you a choice of a refund of annual fee, decrease in apr, or loc increase. I normally got 300-500 increases at a time.

    DON'T PAY FOR INCREASES!

I think you are right... I always pay the balance off every month (being that the credit limit is so low!) and have only recieved 2 credit limit ($100.00)increases that I had to pay 15.00 for???? This card is a waste of time.... what about PFB?

I have an old Household (Orchard) card.

When I first go it in 1998 it was a secured card. I made a $500 deposit. When I go the card in the mail it had a $1000 credit limit.

I have never been over and have never made a late payment and in 5 years my credit line had gone up to $2400 just from auto reviews.

I called 2 weeks ago and asked them to increase the CL to 5k, since this is one of my oldest cards, I want to keep it, but I need a higher CL if it is gonna be one of my 'Big 3 cards'.

They sent me out a letter 'Congrats we have given you a $100 CL increase'. It was like a slap in the face.

I called to try to have it converted to a regular Household gold card, or to a GM card, and they say they can't do it. So I am just going to pay it off, and sock drawer it.

I did not have to pay for the CL increases, in FL it is against the law I think. Providian had charged me $99 each for a few increases, but I got the money refunded to my account, there was some type of recent legal decision in the state of FL that made charging for CL increases illegal.

Marie, I thank you for this number... I just got off the phone with retention and all they could do for me is give me a $100 credit limit increase... Her thing was that I don't use the card every month, I told her to give me a higher credit limit, and I would use the card monthly... she said that I have only had the card since 8/2002, I don't use the card evey month, and that she could only give me a $100.00 increase... so I took it... I don't know about this company?????

Hubby got that preapproved offer about 6 months ago. I ignored it - knew it was going to be $300. He told them he wouldn't take it unless he got $1K. They sent us out a 300 limit. He called, thru a fit, and they gave him the $1000. No charge, no new credit check.

I have a 2-yr old Orchard as well as a 2-yr old Household, both with tiny limits: 500 and 400, respectively. I hate the cards but they're two of my oldest cards, so I have to keep them. My CL increases have been only $100 a pop - and here I get approved for GM, Citi and B of A, etc. this week! Go figure.

They're SO in the sock drawer.

I started at 300, 3 years later... 4800. It can be done. You have to use it. but get your annual fees refunded... no need paying for their conservative increase time.

anyway, mark the days.. use the card, call back at 91 days

Had Gm Card since March, they gave me 3k limit 13.49 APR, no fee and no % until Oct, BT 2200 and kept bal at same until paid off about a week ago. Went online and requested 3k increase based on BT, they gave me 1k. Better than nothing.

I've had the GM Card from Household since 1998. I've received credit line increases each year, and am currently at a little over $12,000 credit line. I also have approximately $2500 credit toward a new car, so I use this card monthly because of the 5% rebate.
