Have you ever heard of a CA being able to put a tax lien against you? I had a CA call me up on my cell phone(how they got the number, It's a mystery to me?), and basically tell me that I owe money for a VA loan for going to college. My response was like, "Hello, are you stupid or something. I served in the military, I didn't get a loan to go to college. I earned the GI Bill by serving my country. It wasn't a loan." The lady on the phone tells me , " Well you didn't finish school, so you have to repay what you were paid over." It is a loan. I intend to send off a request for validation on this. The CRA has this as an overpayment. How the hell did it become a loan and how can they threaten a lien for this. And how the hell did they get my cell phone number?
Sheesh!! Who knows - I started getting telemarketing calls on my cellphone. I think the companies sell them after you have had the number a while. There must be someone at the VA you can talk to about you loan, and get some info what is going on. Then as always, send these bozos a validation letter. Don't talk to them on the phone!!! They will say ANYTHING.
I THOUGHT IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW TO CALL A CELL PHONE NUMBER WITH-OUT YOUR WRITTEN OR VERBAL (ADVANCE) PERMISSION FOR ADVERTISING OR COLLECTION...
First thing I would do is contact the VA and find out for sure what the policy was if you didn't graduate and verify that they didn't overpay. Before you send out a validation, find out where you stand with the VA. Here's some useful info: If you need help with your VA education benefits, or if you need to notify us of any changes affecting your benefits, you can contact us in the following ways: Our website: www.gibill.va.gov. Checked out the site. Remembering back, I dropped out of college because I couldn't balance 12 hour shifts at my job with college. Plus the fact that I was making more money. Maybe if I call the VA and explain the situation, maybe they'll give me a break.
Go to www.hadit.com and look under BVA appeals. If you did not finish school VA wants their money back. You have to fill out a special form and ask them to consider a waiver for you not to have to repay them. I'm 8 years military if they owe you 50 cents you will never get it. If you owe them 50 cents they will spend 5,000 to get it. Dont mess with the VA. They will garnish, take your house, car what ever it takes to get their money and because it is the government it is easy for them. If you dont get this straight now kiss next years tax return By! By!
