The other day I was surfing C Net and noticed that certain words and phrases all over the board were underlined in a gold or bronze line.
    The line was a hyperlink.
Clicking on them took you to and advertisement such as the following.

Click here: Free Online Credit Report - credit check monitoring, credit rating, credit scores

    http://qspace.iplace.com/cobrands/293/home59.asp?sc=14672197

This is just one of the adds from many out fits that were scattered all over the board.

Could it be that it's time to run Ad-Aware and Spybot on your comp? Same thing happened to me, till I put this puter on lockdown.

It is a "malware" program that you have installed on your machine. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the program, but I know that it is easily removed. Download "AdAware" from lavaSoft and it should take care of it.

    yep, spyware at work...

basically you either downloaded a program, or visited a page which auto-downloaded and installed spyware.

every word on every page you visit is parsed to direct you to their affiliate program links, or other types of paid listings.

    I have "AdAware"
But it doesn't prevent this. It only removes it after it's been put on my computer.
Does any program prevent such installations rather than just removing them after the fact.

You need a firewall and virus scanner that not allow scripts like these to install. I would use Norton AV and ZoneAlarm as a firewall.

    LB,

From my experience on this, Adaware won't catch all of the spyware and malware out there. That's why I would recommend using both Spybot and Adaware. You can download Spybot at http://www.safer-networking.org/.

Spybot does have the capability to block certain spyware-like behaviors. Using those capabilities along with a firewall, you shouldn't have too many more problems with the behavior from your original post.
